"Reality" and things in between.[edit]

This line which reads: "Psilocybin, much like LSD and other psychedelics, is often portrayed in popular culture as being more intense and vivid than they are. In truth, hallucinations produced by psilocybin are very much distinguishable from reality..." is not true in every circumstance.

1. Doses of above 5 grams of P. cubensis can cause immersive experiences and total loss of "reality" (dosage may vary, depending from individual).

2. "Other psychedelics"? This is a hasty generalization. For example, the N,N dimethyltryptamine is just "another psychedelic", therefore; take one breakthrough dose, and good luck with distinguishing "real" from "not real" during the plateau of experience. — Unsigned, by: 195.252.65.72 / talk / contribs 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Insect nerve poison.... seriously?[edit]

For a rational wiki, it is kind of stupid that a condescending phrase such as "insect nerve poison" is used in this article. Specifically the sentence "It's almost like ingesting insect nerve poisons isn't as good an idea as it sounds on paper" ...

There is no reason to believe this, nor is there any biological or evolutionary evidence supporting the idea that psilocybin is even a natural defense mechanism against ANY sort of predator, insect or otherwise. Nothing in biological or medical literature indicates this.

If anyone can cite a real study or article indicating psilocybin's toxic effects on insects then that is different. But you can't just make bullshit like this up just to make it seem like it is bad. This are the same sort of tactics used by notoriously pseudoscientific programs like DARE. I thought this wiki was about disseminating bullshit?

And for the record, all available mammalian models of psilocybin's effect on the brain show it to physically repair damaged brain tissue, and promote the growth of neurons (as well as overall neuronal cell density), especially in the hippocampus.— Unsigned, by: 174.2.80.239 / talk / contribs

How's the article?[edit]

I would think this article at least deserves bronze, right?—Hamburguesa con queso con un cara Spinning-Burger.gif (talkstalk) 10:33, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

@CheeseburgerFace I'll go ahead and nominate it for bronze. I think the "Safety" section" needs substantial expansion and the references need prettying up, but otherwise it's a good article. Cosmikdebris (talk) 15:08, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
@Cosmikdebris The safety section is a joke section. The studies section more or less tells you how to have a safe trip. However, the article doesn't really delve into the dangers of the drug or the woo, so definitely room for expansion.—Hamburguesa con queso con un cara Spinning-Burger.gif (talkstalk) 16:49, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
