Talk:Wedge strategy
From RationalWiki
I added some other stuff about WS in general, I'm sure the concept was around before the DI's one of "teach the controversy". Feel free to correct if I'm wrong. humanbe in 16:19, 16 June 2007 (CDT)
- Actually, it's been a political term for some time. Medicare, prescription drugs, immigration, abortion, etc. are all common wedge strategies. --Kels 16:41, 16 June 2007 (CDT)
- Well, just about anything can be a wedge strategy, so long as a black/white controversy can be generated around it. --Kels 17:16, 16 June 2007 (CDT)
- True, I guess - although to work it must be something that at least some people feel strongly enough about that it will sway their vote pretty much on its own (or as a cluster of related ones). But I guess that is a matter of framing, not content. Now meet me over at canard... humanbe in 17:19, 16 June 2007 (CDT)
- I'm sorry to disagree, but the "wedge strategy" in terms of ID was created by the "wedge document". Which was created by Discovery Institute. Here is a pdf of the document: http://www.antievolution.org/features/wedge.pdf The full story off how it became public is here: http://www.seattleweekly.com/2006-02-01/news/discovery-s-creation.php --Bob_M (talk) 15:27, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

No need to be sorry... The idea of "wedge strategies" certainly predates that in politics (doesn't it?), but, perhaps that part can be confined to a lower section heading, and more info about the Wedge Document provided? humanbe in 15:32, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- Yes, I intend to add this to the article later. (unless someone else does it first), but my time zone is sending me to the land of nod soon.--Bob_M (talk) 15:35, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- Well, I've updated this one and included the whole Wedge Document document. It's not very big and well worth reading.--Bob_M (talk) 16:29, 22 June 2007 (CDT)
