Back[edit]

Isn't that back to how it used to be Waaaay back? SusanG  ContribsTalk 19:58, 30 August 2008 (EDT)

Probably. I know I shortened the hell out of it a long time ago because it was irritating. ħumanUser talk:Human 22:23, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
(EC) Unless there's another version of the template, it hasn't said "please sign like this" before now. I thought it was a neat idea (saves having to explain it to everyone), but revert if you want. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 22:27, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
That little request would seem to make more sense on their talk page. What are the odds they will see the unsigned thing added to a previous comment? ħumanUser talk:Human 22:26, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
High. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 22:27, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
Very high, even. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 22:28, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
or just add {{sig}} - Please sign talk page entries using four tildes like this: ~~~~ or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png, on the toolbar above the edit panel. Thank you. SusanG  ContribsTalk 22:30, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
Right, I thought Susan had made one of those after getting tired of typing it on people's talk pages where they'll see it. A lot of our "unsigners" are drive-bys anyway, and another lot of them are us forgetting to do it. I prefer the shorter, informative, less bossy version... ħumanUser talk:Human 22:36, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
I think it should be more bossy. Tell people to floss... and such. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 22:47, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
Hmm, well, I could get behind the "mandatory flossing for people who forget to sign" commandment. And make people who leave their user pages as red links will be forcibly washed behind their ears! We'll clean this dump up in a hurry. ħumanUser talk:Human 23:00, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
I shall write my own commandments. Ten, I think. Seems like a nice round number. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 23:24, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
In what base? How many tentacles do you sport? I suggest doing all further work in RW in "base tentacles". In fact, all this "decimal" crap is getting old, let's require that all numbers be written in hex (I have 16 fingers). ħumanUser talk:Human 01:01, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Just add ~~~~~ - 5 tildes[edit]

So that's just giving the timestamp for when you add this template, not for when the comment was made. I was about to change this instruction to "copy the time and date from the fossil record", but I realised that this is affected by your time zone preferences & wouldn't be accurate either. What's the best way round this? WẽãšẽĩõĩďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 23:24, 28 February 2009 (EST)

Seven to four the unsig will be added within a few minutes of the comment anyhow so doesn't really matter? Context should give the real tiome on most occasions. ToastToastand marmite 23:27, 28 February 2009 (EST)
The nice thing is copying the timestamp is "close". Gets the minutes right, at least. OK, so is there a way to get it to read "server time"? ħumanUser talk:Human 00:22, 1 March 2009 (EST)
If you look @ the diff the time'll be server time: copy/past from there. Bit more work though otherwise manual entry? ToastToastand marmite 00:31, 1 March 2009 (EST)
Yes, manual might be fine, it's sad that the diff link doesn't read "Boogetyboloog 0:01 EST 01/01/10", it requires two copy/paste stages, since you can't even copy the editor name & timestamp in one swell foop. I say we bitch at the lusers who wrote the software and get our money back! ħumanUser talk:Human 00:50, 1 March 2009 (EST)
Please sign talk page entries using four tildes like this: ~~~~ or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png, on the toolbar above the edit panel. Thank you. Just practicing in the hope of memmoring. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:52, 1 March 2009 (EST)
Also drop {{sign}}: (On talk pages, please sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png on the toolbar above the edit panel. You can also indent successive talk page comments using one more colon (:) for each line. Thank you.) on the user talk page — Unsigned, by: Toast / talk / contribs Fuck!
Actually, the template is {{sig}}, as I use above. ħumanUser talk:Human 02:52, 1 March 2009 (EST)

A BON version[edit]

Can we have a separate version for BON's as most don't ever fill out their userpage? - π 01:18, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Sure, but what would be different about it? "Unsigned/IP" and it just says "anonymous user"? Sometimes it's nice to see the IP, as it provides continuity... and lets people say, "hey that 61 bon above who didn't sign was me". Oh, I see, you just want it to list the IP address with no link. Talk page link still though? How about "Unsigned|64.64.64.64|ip" being an option? Where "ip" tells it not to link the "username"? ħumanUser talk:Human 02:34, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Pity there is no sort of regex parser function (that might sound incredibly stupid for all I know). - π 02:52, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Or, I have and idea. - π 02:55, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Just don't break it, and document the new version. mkay? ħumanUser talk:Human 04:09, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
It is fixed. Works exactly the same as before. If there is a red link to the user page, it won't display it, hugely cutting our wanted pages. If there is a red link to the talkpage it say "welcome this user", but if the talkpage has been created it goes back to the usual "talk". - π 04:15, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Testing. — Unsigned, by: 64.64.64.64 / talk / contribs ħumanUser talk:Human 04:18, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Nice work! ħumanUser talk:Human 04:19, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Ifexist uses the same mechanism for caching and page invalidation as normal links, so the IP userpages will still show up on Special:WantedPages. -- Nx / talk 05:55, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Damn that is annoying. - π 05:59, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

timestamp[edit]

I think that this template should include a timestamp.--"Shut up, Brx." 14:55, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Ahh, bumfluff, it's only saving as the time in the template, not the time you stamp it on a page. Perhaps somebody with more brain cells than me could give it a go? SophieWilder 15:14, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
I agree that there should be a second parameter for the time. —Kazitor, pending 12:12, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
