Like I said on the article talk page, he filed a restraining order to stop Indiegogo from giving The Oatmeal all of the money.
But here's the catch: Indiegogo didn't get ALL the money. Donations by credit card were collected by Indiegogo and were to be transferred either directly to The Oatmeal or (in fact, what they actually did) directly to the charities. Donations by Paypal went straight into the account Inman set up for the charity drive and never even saw Indiegogo's bookkeeping (but still showing on the site). I don't have the exact figures, but it was roughly half and half. And this arrangement (that Indiegogo doesn't hold onto Paypal donations themselves) was in their terms of service, which Carreon evidently didn't read or ignored when filing his temporary restraining order.
If it's still there by tomorrow, I'll dig up the mountains of legal filings and shit that this sanctimonious fartnozzle has generated because he was butthurt.
Okay, I may have been confused on where the restraining order actually went, I assume he hit PayPal to stop Inman withdrawing the funds too.
I don't think he had the balls (because if Paypal has anything, it's money and very good tax/charity/financial lawyers), but Indiegogo, charities, and anonymous bloggers were far softer targets.
I can't be assed to look it right now because I'm hungry and should climb into bed eventually, but if the article hasn't been improved by tomorrow in terms of making sure the details are right, I'll dig into the legal paperwork and straighten it out (which is what I did with R v Mernagh, not to boast). Looking at it, though, if we consider Carreon and his bullshit on-mission for RW articles, I think it really should actually all be subsumed into an article about Charles Carreon himself, because the whole story is a tale of a crazy internet lawyer, his butthurt, and how he tried to sue everyone in a 20,000-mile radius of the Internet. He's out-Jack Thompsoned Jack Thompson, and he's heading towards competing with birthers at this rate. Rapeutation.com is just the latest chapter in Carreon v The Entire Internet, and I don't think he's going to be able to stop there.
Given that Charles Carreon is on the To do list as it is, I'd support moving it to that, and I'd be happy to help expand it to cover the greater topic than just the latest abortion of an idea that hit the inside of Charlie-poo's skull hard enough. In the morning.
Okay, save it for the morning. I have some work I need to jet off and do and I cannot put it off much longer.
It had to wait a few mornings, but I took a crack at getting Charles Carreon started properly. I'm not done yet, because the whole "Charlie the Censor vs Anyone Within 30,000 Miles" section needs to be fleshed out, and that means research and digging through Carreon's bullshit legal filings. I figured I'd get the ball rolling and come back to it when I've more time, and let other RWers join in if they want. Rapeutation.com's been updated with more of his butthurt, too; bring a strong whiskey along for the read, though, because he isn't getting any saner.
