Sig borkage
Sig borkage
Your sig is too long. On normal talk pages it's not a problem because it just gets dumped wholesale on the page, but in LQT it exceeds the maximum length allowed for a sig. If you try to copy paste the code (with the choose part substed, e.g. replace it with "idgeter") into the signature box in preferences, you'll see that it won't fit there either. The maximum length is 255 characters.
I'm guessing that means he should put a template of his sig (e.g.
) in the "Signature" box in his Preferences, instead of the bare code?
Alternatively, the following code results in almost the same appearance (except the contributions link is also big-ed), and fits even with "idgeter" (the longest option in the choose function), and leaves you with a few characters to spare:
<big><span style="color:green">F</span><span style="color:#B80935">talk to me :D</span>|<span style="color:orange">see my shit</span></big>
Well, okay then. I was going to make a new sig, but I guess that works as well.
Also, I already am using User:Fallacy/sig.
Well, what I and a few others do is put your sig as a template (e.g.
) on a second subpage in your userspace called User:Fallacy/sigsubt, and paste that (as
) in the "Signature" box under your Preferences, instead. That way, your signature always appears as a template every time you sign. (This also means you could make your signature as big as you want.)
But, Nx isn't a big fan of that approach, given it burdens the server with a ton more templates to process. But I prefer it anyways, because I happen to like my massive sigs.
Doesn't SAFESUBST make that redundant?
No idea. But what I said above is how someone (Human, I think) told me to do it ages ago. They complained my sig was "vomiting code all over the place." :-)
Sorry about that...
The method Stabby suggested is not necessary any more, as you can just put into your preferences. With this, every time you sign, is inserted into the page, so it won't dump all the code into the talk page, and if you change your sig it will be updated everywhere. However, this is a huge burden on the server, especially on large talk pages like the saloon bar.
Putting into your preferences will instead dump the whole code when you sign. The only problem with this is that normally, that means dumping the whole choose part as it is. Now, you can't just put subst in front of choose as well, because then when you click save on your sig subpage, it'll be substed. So instead you have to use safesubst (with the includeonly around it).
So, SAFESUBST seems to functioning exactly the same as just — (talk to) [æn əˈmɛɹɪkən ˈnaiːɪlɪst], then. Even if it does strain the server, I like it, because then the talk pages aren't filled with a bunch of garbage that makes it hard to read the source. But do whatever you think is best.
Not exactly, if someone substs a page with safesubst, the safesubst part will be substituted, that's the point.
See here, you didn't have safesubst in the choose part, and it dumped the whole thing. Then I added safesubst here, and the result is this - the whole choose part was replaced by litzer, which is what you want.
The includeonly tag around it is only necessary to make work as well.
