Timothy Mousseau is a leading "scientist" in the anti-nuclear movement. After a mainstream biology education he eventually became a professor at the University of South Carolina. Since then, he has taken an unorthodox approach, particularly in regards to radiation damage suffered by animals around Chernobyl and Fukushima. Collaborating with Dr. Anders Pape Møller (who was found guilty of fabricating data by a Danish government committee in 2004) he has produced large amount of research showing that radiation causes far more damage than is accepted by almost anyone else, claiming to have found evidence of tumors, physical deformities, and reduced populations.
As well has revealing claimed damage from radiation, Mousseau has also claimed to have found evidence of animals adapting to high radiation levels in the area around Chernobyl, with the suggestion that species that are thriving around Chernobyl may have adapted to counter the damaging effects of radiation. However other scientists have disputed his findings, finding no proof of any effect from elevated radiation levels around Chernobyl.
Unfortunately for Professor Mousseau, his work is now widely viewed as unscientific because nobody else has been able to find the damage he reports. Although he routinely speaks at anti-nuclear rallies rather than scientific conferences, unlike most anti-nuclear activists he still participates in the scientific community.
