[1] You sign your posts by putting four tildes at the end, like this: ~~~~ Star of David.png Radioactive Misanthrope 20:16, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Ta for the tip. I have used the square brackets that other folk were using. it seemed to make more sense to someone of 0 wiki expertise aMassiveGAy

The square brackets you've used are okay, but ~~~~ takes less time and adds the date and time you posed the comment. (There is a one-click signature button in the row of buttons that appears when you edit a page; it's the second one from the right. The date and time tells people where your comment figures in the flow of conversation.) Star of David.png Radioactive Misanthrope 20:39, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
I'll maybe try to do that in future, then. You'd think that I'd better better at Wiki stuff considering I maintained the wiki pages of my department in one of the UK's largest hospitals.--AMassiveGay (talk) 20:52, 28 July 2010 (UTC) oooh that button works nice

[edit] I'm way more rock and roll than you

It's just turned into Sunday and I'm on my SECOND AND LAST BEER of the evening, even though I had OVER TWO BEERS on Friday night, and I'm watching the A-Team, and writing this at the same time. SuperJosh 1, MassiveGay 0. SJ Debaser 23:05, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Not sleeping, Quitting Smoking.

Hey, I saw your post on the Saloon Bar, but didn't really follow all the replies. Thought I'd put some thoughts here. I've had some pretty bad insomnia problems in the past, and have tried (and failed) to quit smoking, so my advice on the sleep is probably much better than the smoking...

  • A doctor once told me, and it's a really good way of thinking of it, to think about needing to be mentally tired AND physically tired. Know how sometimes you feel physically drained, but mentally active.. or mentally drained but somehow energetic.. and it's always difficult to sleep with either. Try to work out which one it is. If it's physical, try to wear yourself out a bit more, walk instead of a bus, that kind of thing. If it's more mental, the below tips can really help:
  • I know it's hard for the computery nerdy types (which I am, and you may be), but when I'm struggling to sleep, it REALLY does help if you say, "Right, I'm going to bed in 1 or 2 hours, no more computer." Try not to use the computer, watch TV, that kind of thing. Read a book, try to wind down. I find it impossible to just go from, "Lalala, socialising, messing about on the computer, cooking... BED." I need that wind down time.
  • If you find yourself lying in bed thinking everything through, it sounds silly... but try writing it down. Just have a little notebook or piece of paper with a pen by your bed, write down any worries, ideas, thoughts which're going through your head. It can give an odd sense of closure, and after a month you might have a collection of great ideas.
  • Unless it gets absolutely life-ruining and depressing, try to avoid the medication. For some people, benzodiazepines (sp?) (Valium, lorazipam, that kind of thing) and sleeping pills (zopiclone, etc.) can be really helpful. And one or two nights using them can be BRILLIANT to just catch up on some essential sleep. But they're... not exactly addictive.. but I found that if you use them to sleep for like a week or two, then it is EVEN HARDER than before to sleep once you're off them. Try not to make the problem worse long-term to make it better short-term. Obviously I'm no doctor, and this is just my experience... but don't just willy nilly accept yummy drugs from the doctor.
  • Cut the caffeine, completely. Every last bit of it. I found this REALLY difficult, because when you can hardly sleep.. that cup of coffee is the only thing that keeps you going. But if you can not use it for a week, it makes a huge difference.
  • As the the smoking, try the plastic inhilators, the patches and the gum. They work differently for different people. I found the patches bad, even as a 20-a-day-smoker, they're still a bit heavy-going and make me headachey and dizzy from all the nicotine, and having it constantly pumped into you. The gum is good because you can use it subtly anywhere, and it REALLY takes the craving away, leaving only the mental element of it. The inhilators, "e-cigarettes," aren't something I've tried, but a friend of mine managed to quit with them, saying they really solved the craving because you go through the actions of smoking. I also know a lot more people who have quit by STOPPING smoking and trying to stick with it, than saying, "I'll cut down then stop..." Good luck with it, and I hope you can achieve it. You on skype? If so then add me (crundy1) and if you're about tomorrow evening (GMT) then I can give you a shout. Honestly, you're panicking about something you can easily resolve. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 22:27, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Riots

I know you're another Londoner, you been affected by them at all? My area's been pretty much locked down after 6pm since Monday, but we haven't really had much bother, nothing out the ordinary anyway. SJ Debaser 10:52, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Waterloo

Didn't know you lived in Waterloo. Whereabouts are you? I lived on Stamford St for a couple of years. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 08:07, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Otherwise it gets pretty difficult to follow. DeltaStarSenior SysopSpeciationspeed! 12:12, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes I can see how that could be confusing. AMassiveGay (talk) 12:27, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Heh, no worries. Yeah I was holed up in the halls of residence on Stamford st. I used to buy beer from the offie a few doors down from the Vic. Do you ever go to the white hart? It was our local for a while but the landlord turned into a twat. I went there a couple of years ago and it seems to have been "upgraded" to a trendy wine bar. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 14:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeh, its been all wine bars and resturants since I've been here, particularly on the cut. I don't go drinking locally - I only frequent gay places, and poverty prevents even that AMassiveGay (talk) 15:49, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
So is there actually a gay nightclub in Waterloo? A gay guy I was friends with from the white hart once asked if I wanted to go there with him at chucking out time (but I was tired and skint and not really in the mood for dancing frantically to YMCA :) ) CrundyTalk nerdy to me 15:57, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
As far as I know, there are no gay clubs in waterloo. There used to be the man bar catering to the more sleazy client (men only, strict dress code of at the most, pants only), but closed now I think. There a couple of saunas there, and Vauxhall is just down the road, which seems to have surpassed Old Compton street for London's gay centre. And Of course Heaven is just across the river in Embankment. AMassiveGay (talk) 16:23, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I still need to check out Heaven, my friends (gay and straight) in common with all human beings keep saying we should go there and continuously fail to organise anything. I'd need to go with a mixed group though to affirm my heterosexuality, devilishly handsome as I am.
Also AMG, I was passing through Waterloo station the other day and thought to myself "hey, AMassiveGay lives here!" Exciting I know. SJ Debaser 16:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Now that you know you can take precautions to prevent catching the gay AMassiveGay (talk) 17:03, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Shin splints

I've just developed them too so I was looking online for some more specific treatments and I found this page from Cool Running that I thought might help you too. I don't know if it suggests something different from what you've been trying but hopefully it'll help. Hope you get better. Shin splints are a bitch. Sam Tally-ho! 19:27, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Cheers. They are most definitely a bitch. I've doing wall pushups every spare moment (i subscribe to the 'little but often' school of stretching). The arch strapping thing is new to me so I might give that a go when I am ready to hit the pavement again. AMassiveGay (talk) 18:37, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Oh come on, don't tell me this isn't clever. Osaka Sun (talk) 05:25, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Introduction to Philosophy

Be careful with the Russell -- there's a lot of anti-Continental bias there, only most of which is justified. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (which can be found here, unless I screwed up the code again) is very good, and if you have any specific questions, I'm happy to correspond by e-mail: unemployed.philosopher at the gmail. [edit] Does you name?

Confirm Ken's conclusions on homosexuality and obesity?  :)

it does not. I am 6'4, which I am often told is quite tall, but not massively so. My name should be applied in the same way you would call someone a massive cock, that is to refer to their essence as massively embodying a cock rather than a physical description. And it sounds quite jolly. AMassiveGay (talk) 01:21, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
Lol I know, an attempt at humour, that's all.--Mercian (talk) 01:47, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Kurious Oranj

Actually, it's a reference to the song by The Fall, which is where This Morning got it from. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 04:42, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

I googled the term after I posted and guessed that was the case. I am not familiar with the falls work. AMassiveGay (talk) 12:35, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
