We cool?[edit]

Sorry I vandal binned you. I was jumping to conclusions. I was just thinking that perhaps I owed you a formal apology. NerdyWizardyou believed that why? 10:14, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Okay. Father Vivian O'Blivion talkModerator 13:04, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Kevin Martin wandalism[edit]

I'm attempting to setup abuse filters to deal with the wandalism on the talkpage so that it can remain unlocked. If he succeeds in wandalising the talkpage, lock it again but, most importantly, let me know with revision links to what he did so that I can update the filter accordingly. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 10:09, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

You got it, babe. Father Vivian O'Blivion talkModerator 13:07, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

My Mistakes[edit]

How'd you find those mistakes so quickly? Also, how can I do the same? I love RW, and want to improve it. --Theoneandonlyduncan (talk) 14:39, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Usually when a new guy starts editing, one of the old guys will check the edits out to make sure they work. Thanks for not taking the reversions personally. Keep poking at it, you may be an old guy pretty soon. Father Vivian O'Blivion talkModerator 14:44, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll work on it, but don't sue me if I get something wrong! :) --Theoneandonlyduncan (talk) 14:46, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
If it helps, I'm consulting the talk pages before I edit. --Theoneandonlyduncan (talk) 14:57, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Wait[edit]

I was told before that I was able to change my user page but not my talk page. I am a real dummy with wikis and will stop if it is against TOS. Or have we crossed wire? I understood little of your message--Mercian (talk) 03:08, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you're asking me about? You can do whatever you want short of porn on your userpage, talk pages have to be archived. Father Vivian O'Blivion talkModerator 03:14, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

ref this:Wait ....

So if you RSS the history of a wiki page, you have a record of oversited edits because the code for all edits is stored in your feeder? Father Vivian O'Blivion talkModerator 02:56, 20 July 2014 (UTC) , I have no idea what RSS is.--Mercian (talk) 03:18, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

I was asking about this. You used an RSS feed to get that data? Father Vivian O'Blivion talkModerator 03:33, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
That was a CP user, I just screen captured it.--Mercian (talk) 03:58, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Two Noob Questions[edit]

Question 1: When and how does a talk page get archived? Question 2: How can I change my signature to something cool? --Theoneandonlyduncan (talk) 21:26, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

When an auto thing does it for you or if you manually do it. The second is at User:Theoneandonlyduncan/sig and here--Miekal 21:29, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Yet Another Noob Question[edit]

How do I get a userbox?--TheoneandonlyduncanSend me hate mail 13:31, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Do what I did when I had them -- steal and modify the code from people's userpages. 13:46, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

The Noob Questions Just Keep Coming[edit]

I added a capture reference tag when referencing Conservapedia, but the "img" link is red. ???--TheoneandonlyduncanSend me hate mail 12:31, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Editor spike in February[edit]

(Context)

I just checked Special:Editcount for February 2013, and like 150 of those are from when a user launched a MASSIVE vandalism attack on us using an automated script of some kind. (Sorry, I don't remember if you were there for that. I was barely there for it, in fact.) RecentChanges was useless for days, even as David and Trent scrambled to mitigate the damage. I added a note underneath the chart explaining it. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 10:37, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Insanity, and Andy[edit]

This dispassionate phrasing you're endorsing isn't better. Not just because it's important because a sense humor is important, but it's also important that to someone not familiar with Andy, that craziness is completely non-obvious. To a new reader trying to come to terms with the group, it's just a name. There's no strong incentive to click the Schlafy link to learn more, because it comes off as just a lawyer. Please reconsider. Ikanreed (talk) 15:30, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Boring old jokes that have been here probably since the first Bush administration? Meh. I've been reading "andy is batshit insane" on so many pages since 2007. Time to move on. Also, bring up changes to specific articles on the relevant talk page. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 15:33, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
The article calls someone other than Schlafly insane. Calling someone insane is potentially defamatory. Ikanreed's attitude is what gets people sued. Faraday Cage (talk) 15:40, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
And.... now I think you're whitewashing. My attitude is one of accepting colloquial language for extremely questionable decisions, in comparison to not honestly representing them. You can call that "getting people sued", but it pretty clearly falls into the umbrella category of opinionated criticism of public figures. It doesn't make a specific and false allegation. AgingHippie, you've made a mistake here. I liked your rewrite of the change to emphasize the problem without using harsh language, but this user is a whitewasher. That's the whole MO of their edits. Ikanreed (talk) 16:31, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
I disagree. Thanks. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 16:34, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
It's fair to disagree, but I'd like to understand your reasoning. Look at their more recent edits, being "concerned" that calling an osteopath not a doctor is libel? I mean, it's a small sample set, and I'm judging them prematurely, but I think you were incredibly premature in deciding their non-fuckwit status for sysopping too. I know if that becomes a problem it can be addressed later, but call me suspicious. Ikanreed (talk) 16:38, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
An osteopath is a doctor, dummy. Now let the grownups do their work. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 16:40, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Blacklist[edit]

Is there an external link blacklist to handle a deleted tweet of mine that MadmanJohnson posted?—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 04:23, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Also how to report MadmanJohnson for being a funless harassing cockbag?—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 04:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

1. I don't know. 2. You know how the Coop works, but I will delete any thread the moment someone mentions any user's activities on, or proclivities in regard to, any other web site. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 04:58, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
1. Okay. 2. Yet I want to report him for being rude here by bringing up what I do on other websites so how does that work?—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 06:35, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
You threw the door wide open for that when you brought up a load of stuff about what Exiled Encyclopedist had done at Wikipedia. Either users' standing at Wikipedia is relevant to us (as you & David Gerard both argued in that case) or it isn't (as I still maintain), but you can't have your cake & eat it now that the boot is on the other foot. WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 08:54, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
EE is a terrible content contributor on any Wiki ever who brought up everything he had done at Wikipedia with regards to me when trying to get my goat. David and I merely pointed out that the behavior was the same between websites. MadmanJohnson was doing the same out of spite. When I was an admin at Wikipedia I did heavy vandalism prevention. Here, I've mostly blocked people for being unfunny (which seems to be a common punishment) and for directly harassing me (which is for some reason not against any rule).—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 08:58, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Coop archival[edit]

Could I urge you to undo your archive of the coop? The discussion is not over - indeed I have only just finished a meeting and been able to look at the page. Asking in good faith here mate, I didn't intend to bring GG into the conversation, it's purely about Ryulong's abuse of blocking power. Tielec01 (talk) 06:03, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

You know this is an archive, right? 141.134.75.236 (talk) 07:43, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Of course I did, I was just testing you. Tielec01 (talk) 08:06, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
But yet my blocks only involve Gamergate so you have a catch-22 there Tielec01.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 09:03, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Right, so it was completely ridiculous to remove an ongoing discussion for that reason. If AgingHippie had a particular problem because of MadmanJohnson's reference to outside activities (as he intimates above), then he should have just deleted or moved that portion. The fact is that I was blocked by Ryulong for having a disagreeable opinion, despite having his sysop privs being removed before on this site, and despite having been warned recently not to do that. Another fact is that AgingHippie re-sysoped Ryulong after it was removed by Tielec01, so it doesn't seem particularly honest on his part to prematurely delete the entire discussion. Chrimony (talk) 09:29, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Yet you have no issues with Typhoon or Fuzzy Cat Potato having blocked you before I ever did. Hell, Typhoon blocked you 4 times. And my blocks were almost undone immediately and I was cracked down upon. So is there unfair treatment here or are you just trying to get my goat? And AgingHippie's archiving came hours after he did anything with user rights.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 09:36, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
I do have a problem with Typhoon (and I previously had mentioned one of his blocks specifically on the Gamergate:Talk page), and I feel he should, at minimum, be warned. FuzzyCatPotato, from what I can tell, blocked me for 3 seconds, and I believe that undid a 9 hour block imposed by Typhoon. My focus here has been on you because you're the main topic of discussion, and you most recently imposed a 9 hour ban, while Typhoon most recently imposed a 5 minute ban. While the 5 minutes is borderline abusive, it's nowhere close to 9 hours. Chrimony (talk) 10:32, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Well then why spend all this time going after me when he was twice as abusive to you than I was?—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 10:50, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
It's like you don't even read what you're replying to. Did you miss the part about the most recent blocking, yours being 9 hours, Typhoon's being 5 minutes? What brought your case to the Coop? The 9 hour block. Chrimony (talk) 11:03, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Section title added so Pibot will see the section and archive it[edit]

Osaka Sun added that "scared" line to the Anita page and I think it refers to her detractors rather than her, but I'm still waiting on confirmation.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 10:34, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, well, a line like that cannot be ambiguous, given the circumstances. AgingHippie (talk) 13:56, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Newb question[edit]

Hello, thanks for your welcome notice. If per RationalWiki:What is a RationalWiki article? RationalWiki is original research, how can editors ever agree on what content to present? There's many different points of view out there. Reina Kate (talk) 04:41, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

We mostly have fair, honest, open debate guided by mutual respect and a shared commitment to the truth bitch, moan, backstab, leave and never come back and get into prolonged and nasty edit wars Say "fuck it" and let Gerard fix it. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 04:47, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
That isn't a very good sign, IMO. So if I were to get into a dispute regarding the presentation of article content, and not facts, we would defer to Mr. Gerard? Reina Kate (talk) 04:49, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
He's joking. It always ends with a reasoned, well-researched bitchfest. Herr FüzzyCätPötätö (talk/stalk) 04:54, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Okay, honestly, poke around and make small changes. If you see somewhere you want to make a massive change, the "recommended practice" is to bring it up on the talk page first, but that won't be much fun. Be bold, if the edits are good people will respect you and tidy up for style, and if they're garbage, people will call you out on your bullshit but encourage you to fix it and try again. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 04:59, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Also, there's a "help wanted" page somewhere. Poke around and look for something that catches your eye. If you know anything about any one of those wanted articles, it probably means nobody else here does, so that makes you the expert. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 05:01, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

I didn't realize that I had been blocked twice by him.

Where should I go to discuss the Gamergate article? The article talk page itself is inaccessible. The insertion by Ryulong that it is a conspiracy theory that Briana Wu is transgender is factually and demonstrably inaccurate.— Unsigned, by: 67.42.179.115 / talk / contribs

Blocking IP addresses[edit]

Hi mate, I noticed you blocked an IP address for 3 months for doxxing. I haven't looked at whether the posts were doxxing or not so I won't comment on that; but just keep in mind that it's as simple for the person to unplug their modem and plug it back in again for them to reset their IP address.

Not sure if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but blocking IP addresses for that length of time doesn't really achieve anything, and could have the unlikely, but unfortunate effect, of blocking some random user who happens to use that IP address.

IMO a block of a few days would be more than adequate; although I'm happy to defer to your block here. Tielec01 (talk)

I love the sucking eggs expression. Yah, I know the long block was futile, unless dude like me has a static IP. But given that TOR/proxy editing is already forbidden, it may be a moot point, in a way? Anyway, feel free to change the block if you think that's the best thing. FWIW, the doxxing was a a link to a trans forum with a pile of circumstantial evidence linking somebody to a post on that site. Not a strong dox, but not cool, in my books. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 02:16, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm not a fan of doxxing and would hate if it happened to me. BTW even Static IPs are occasionally rotated or reallocated; so there's still hope for you yet... Tielec01 (talk) 02:21, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Tiresome BON[edit]

That was probably the more "rational" move. ;) --Castaigne (talk) 00:53, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Saint Washington[edit]

Hello.

Sorry, but I'm having trouble understanding your apparent deletion of the weird painting of Washington as a religious figure. I'm not sure exactly why you think it ought to be deleted. Yes, it's odd (at best) to picture Washington as a religious figure, but that's what the painting does and surely we don't delete images just because we don't like their ideology, do we?

I suspect I'm missing your point.Phiwum (talk) 17:11, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

To support the act, deleting images for being a waste of space used by users in a near psychotic continuous single-subject rant spread across the site isn't strictly within the rules, but it's a wiki, and content judgements are sorta up to the editors, when it becomes an apparent part of the wiki's outward face. It's pretty clearly off-mission, the way it was used, and editors aren't entitled to hard drive space. Ikanreed (talk) 17:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
The target was not the image, but the commentary that it was "Saint Washington Depicted in the Capitol building as an exalted religious figure." Which, yeah, may be true on its own, but when I saw it in terms of all the other really cranky shit that guy had used to title his images, I was pretty sick of his shit. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 17:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Well, it's pretty much what LogicMaster does around here, alongside his endless rants about states being religions. Seriously, has LM contributed anything useful (beyond some interesting debates among other editors)? ScepticWombat (talk) 17:27, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
I can certainly see being sick of LogicMaster's shit, and also I understand Ikanreed's point. I guess the main reason I thought the deletion is regrettable is that the art in question was genuinely surprising and interesting. I had never supposed that Washington would be so displayed in a government building and this fact is noteworthy and curious. Phiwum (talk) 17:59, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh, feel free to re-up it in a non-cranky way and find it a good home on the wiki. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 18:01, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
That reminds me of something I thought about with regards to LM's multiple uploads of architecture and this picture as well as some sculpture:
That LM may have stumbled into an interesting discussion of the possible connections between republican government, the Enlightenment and neo-classical ideals in art and architecture. Of course, LM, rather than making this connection, insisted that these neo-classical works were evidence of deification of the American state and its leading members and thus evidence that (surprise, surprise) the state is a religion. ScepticWombat (talk) 18:43, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
I think that's actually a pretty old idea. I'm not much of a US historian, but I recall reading some articles that dealt with those connections in a seminar I did a few years back that linked the Roman, British, French, and contemporary US empires. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 18:50, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
You're probably right that this direct comparison has already been made in the case of U.S. history. What's interesting is that this artistic trend encompassed states far beyond the republican U.S. and included states that were not (yet) democratic in any sense. Thus, it seems that even governments run on principles wholly at odds with the republican ideals appropriated this iconography but not the ideals that went with it in the U.S. I wonder whether this can be linked to expressing a different style of government from antiquity, namely the "enlightened despotism" of some of the "good Roman emperors" (e.g. the "philosopher king" Marcus Aurelius), which could appeal to the enlightened absolute monarchs of Europe. That would highlight the ambiguity of symbols and different uses of history. ScepticWombat (talk) 07:08, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

You seem to be taking decisions. Explain yourself. MtDNotorious Sodomite 11:09, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
