Deleting references from The Spirit Science[edit]

Hi Ander, I can see you've begun a major reorganisation of The Spirit Science (TSS), which isn't a problem per se (although it might be a good user friendly initiative to add some explanation of such a major overhaul on the TSS talk page). However, I can see that you seem to have cut several of the citations in the process as well. Was this deliberate or a copy/paste error? ScepticWombat (talk) 11:15, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello ScepticWombat. Don’t worry, I’ve actually decided to rearrange them in an orderly way. The references have disappeared only momentarily (I’m sorry, but I made a huge mess on the page while editing it). The corrections have temporally disappeared because I’m going to put them in a table-style, like in the article “Rebuttal to 101 evidences of a young Earth”. What do you think? Ander Garin 15:00, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
A rebuttal style page is interesting. You may wish to use {{sbs}}. Please add back the refs when you can. Fuzzy "Cat" Potato, Jr. (talk/stalk) 19:28, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi again Ander. Yeah, I noticed you reinserted some of the ref.s in subsequent edits after I wrote my first comment, but I had to go off for some meetings, so I didn't have time to update my comment. I think both the topical (re)ordering and "explanatory" link format (i.e. not just some unintelligible URL to TSS's YT videos, but a link which actually has the video title in it) are great ideas. Using a more reader friendly link format will also allow for easy consolidation of repeated links to the same video (e.g. the (in)famous (pseudo)history "lesson") through the use of the ref name tag. ScepticWombat (talk) 19:39, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
And yeah, a side-by-side rebuttal, such as our furry feline tuber mod suggested, would allow for debunking and/or snark. Some of TSS's stuff is, after all, so bonkers that it neither needs nor deserves actual debunking, but just head shaking and face palming. ScepticWombat (talk) 19:46, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Ah, OK! However, in the rebuttal, we might have problems with the "Logic and math" section. You see, I created that section for claims so idiotic, that any person who is mentally functional can tell them wrong. Don’t worry, I’ll continue to put more references but also name them. By the way, I propose an additional option. Spirit Science has either a myriad of recurring themes or a plethora of wrong facts about something in particular. Wouldn’t be much more pleasant for readers to see them in a text style rather than a list? Like the beginning of the “Beliefs” section, but amplified and debunked?
The list of these things.

Alchemy - Alternative medicine - Astral projection - Astrology - Atlantis and other lost continents - Buddha - Chakras - Dimensions - DNA activation - Drunvalo Melchizedek - Egypt - Energy (male and female for example) - Extraterrestrials - Free-energy - Human “history” - Jesus Christ - Psychic powers - Sacred geometry - Singularity - Spirits - The Illuminati - The Moon - Thoth - Toroidal flow - Water

Hi! I've just written what I mean to say with this list in the new section "Themes", in the theme of "Alchemy". I've also put references :). Ander Garin 11:13, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

If I had to sum up TSS's fractal wrongness it would be as a core of garbled "classical" Western-style oriental(ised) mysticism (Blavatsky, theosophy, spiritualism) with some bolted on sacred geometry and crystal woo and cobbled together with bad sci fi (ancient astronauts). Then he slaps any kind of stuff he happens to stumbled across onto this Jerry rigged mental (in both senses of the word) framework anyway he likes, yielding such gems as his space Jews. CWCki[edit]

Explain how CWCki is on-mission, please. --Ymir (talk) 18:44, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Ymir! Well, I wasn't going to explain CWC's life, but I was going to explain how far trolling has gone. What do you think about? --Ander Garin (talk) 18:47, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I understand. Sorry. --Ander Garin (talk) 18:48, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
I don't really see the point. It will boil down to, "People who need to get a life have spent a bunch of time harassing some guy online." (I know a lot about Chandler and the obsession some people have with him, trust me.) It doesn't really have any broader impact. --Ymir (talk) 18:51, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
You're right. --Ander Garin (talk) 18:53, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

You can automagically use files from Wikimedia Commons in RationalWiki pages, just like on Wikimedia projects. You don't need to upload copies. --Ymir (talk) 09:06, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Ah, okay.--Ander Garin (talk) 17:40, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Same Garin?[edit]

Hi! I had quoted a YouTube user named Ander Garin way back when I wrote our article on Stars are Souls. JorisEnter just pointed out to me that an Ander Garin is present here, too! If so, I just want to let you know — purely out of trivia reasons — that you're being quoted here (since forever). If you're him, well done writing that refutal! All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 11:04, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

In fact, Reverend Black Percy, I'm the one who published that comment. Thanks! But I've deleted my YouTube account anyway. You know? I used to debunk point-by-point Spirit Science channel videos as well, until I got blocked in his Moon video. Quite an unexpected reaction from someone who blames others for being "close-minded". --Ander Garin (talk) 17:23, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
By the way Reverend Black Percy, as I finally got some attention from someone, quite a time ago I asked whether I could translate the page "Evidence against a recent creation" into Spanish on RationalWiki. I want to do that because 1) it's very eloquently written and 2) there's nothing like that in Spanish on the entire Internet. I'm asking for permission because translations are ultimately word-by-word copies, so I didn't want to outright create the article only for some other RationalWiki editor to get annoyed on me thinking that I'm plagiarizing his/her/their work. --Ander Garin (talk) 17:23, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
Hi! First of all; you want my attention, all you need to do is poke me on my talkpage. I welcome any and all inquiries (after all, I'm on the RMF board, and the handsomest hunk 'round these parts to boot!). Regarding the translation, we're having a discussion kinda sorta on the same topic in the Saloon Bar right now — feel free to join it. More specifically however — and this isn't me "officially answering the question" about the translation; this is just me giving my own two cents — I see no reason why you couldn't produce a translation to Spanish. I say, go for it. But I'm just one editor. The intent is very good, at any rate. Maybe look around the site for other Spanish-speaking editors? It's always a very good idea to have more than one editor to scrutinize articles in languages other than english. All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 00:17, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
OK, I've proposed it in that talk page. Let's see what happens. Since I'm a little bit pressed for time now, I've also asked for other Spanish-speaking people who want to take part in the translation. --Ander Garin (talk) 11:10, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Great! Gave what you wrote there a (fun) title so people will see it easier. ^^ All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 12:37, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
I've created the page, according to RationalWiki's template for other languages. --Ander Garin (talk) 17:54, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
