pallas cat section[edit]

You can't seriously think we need that CUR. Mei 13:09, 10 March 2009 (EDT)

He looks like a wild Garfield, and we should mention that. If only for jokes. --<choose>

That's incredibly lame CUR. And we already have a space for him in the gallery. We don't need a new section for it. Mei 13:18, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
Fail: [1] Mei
I forgot that CUR is the only one to make tyops. Seriously, if you're going to snipe people for their spelling, go after Waitingforgodot. Word evil Hoover! 14:21, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
I was notifying him about how he mistakenly put the "would make a nice pet" part at the end of the article under the references. It's still there actually. Continued fail. Mei 14:28, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
It's a subsection. There's only one, short, not-on mission section there. And it's only lame because I said it. Look at the talk page for the picture. And we don't make any jokes about the wideness of the cats stomach. --<choose>

Thank's martin. I hope to have this bit added to the essay, or at least bits of it, soon. --<choose>

It's already in the gallery. The joke is awful. We don't need a whole section for that. What part of this don't you understand? Mei 14:28, 10 March 2009 (EDT)

Chromosomes[edit]

I've removed the bit about the rusty's chromosomes. Having very similar-but-not quite-chromosomes to other species is part and parcel of the definition of a species - it's not special to rusty spotted cats. the paragraph basically just says, "they have chromosomes". Well, what of it? Totnesmartin 14:19, 10 March 2009 (EDT)

They're so incredibly similar, and it was a surprise. They didn't know that they were so closely related, if I remember correctly. More information can be found at the link. --<choose>

but this kind of discovery is going on all the time. Nowadays more species are discovered by DNA analysis than by exploration - in my own county a new species of tree has been discovered by DNA analysis (they named it after a No Parking sign that was nailed to it!) - it's nothing special. Totnesmartin 14:26, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
The chromosome part is CUR's only defence for having the RSC part in the article. Without it what is the point of any of the rest? Mei 14:28, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
Because the rusty-spotted cat is interesting, and since when has our mission been our exclusive focus? --<choose>

Interesting to who? Shall I put in stuff about every cat I've ever had? I find them interesting, so should I edit war to the end of days about it because I find them interesting? Why not? Totnesmartin 15:32, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
Okay, you've got a point. But should we not have a small section on each species? Not a huge section, just a small sub-section. --<choose>

Each species? IN practise that resulted in just covering the ones you yourself liked. Bad recipe. The gallery covers this need anyway. Mei 15:47, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
I don't like the manul that much, but I created a section anyway. The ones I were interested in got done first, but only due to the lack of interest of others. Create some sections, and I will start on them. --<choose>

As I've said before, we can't write about all forty cat species, & shouldn't just pick ones at random. The felidae article is already long enough. We should concentrate on prioritising cats that we have something significant to say about, & just use the gallery for others. WėąṣėḷőįďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 16:01, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
The manul, rusty-spotted cat, and sand cat all have some mission related content, particuarly the sand cat and manul. In addition, those species are extremely unusual and deserving of attention. --<choose>

If people are interested in any of them, they can go to WP to look them up. The content is barely mission-related. Please tell me you're not going to write about all the species now listed on this page. It's a fool's errand; now that this page has been forked from felidae, I really can't see it being remerged with it. WėąṣėḷőįďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 16:12, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
I'm not. I am going to choose the ones that are the most interesting and unusual and right short summeries. --<choose>

(unindent) [2] "getting rid of ones that aren't unusual enough" = CUR it's just come down to your favourites again. This isn't necessary. Mei 16:22, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
FWI, I hate lynx. But I kept them. Why? They are unusual and goat-fodder. Don't you just hate red lynx? --<choose>

No summaries please - just link to the wp articles, otherwise people will read through them looking in vain for the point or the jokes. If you can put in stuff that is strong evidence for evolution, rather than just mentioning it, then it's more likely to be kept. Hey, that's survival of the fittest! And I like lynx, so there. Totnesmartin 16:28, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
Wow you kept a single cat you don't like. That certainly disproves my theory. Mei 16:29, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
The rest- meh. Except the RSC. But that, if it has to be killed, I am willing to but a summery of it into my user page. --<choose>

Is it possible we could ever remove something that doesn't deserve to be here without going through this stupid rigmarole? It's always "No, that stays because I want it to", then "there is science in it", then "I will copy it in my user page". Can we skip this bullshit just once CUR? Mei 16:35, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
(EC) OK in light of Kels/Phantom Hoover's comments I'm going to stop commenting on the subpage. It makes me angry. Goodbye. Sorry. Mei 16:37, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
Yeah. I don't give a hell about the leopard cats. Zap it if you want. --<choose>

See above. Mei
