You saw the message about the viral extension I left a GK's talk? Sterilexx 20:20, 8 May 2008 (EDT)

Yes, I did. I'm in the middle of beta testing Phase 3 myself, but also making sure these functions enhance each other when crossing paths. It's a bit tricky, I wouldn't mind some help over there. humanUser talk:Human 20:23, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
Darn. I'll take off the extension for the evening... I'll have to reload in the morning. Still, the subtly of what we have amazes me. They won't notice for days. Sterilexx 20:26, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
No, leave it on. It's easier for me to tweak my end, after all the work you did getting it right. humanUser talk:Human 20:33, 8 May 2008 (EDT)

RE: Phase 4. DarthNader and his crew require up to 50 stooge PCs for a dry run on Sunday. You don't need to do anything except visit a URL and leave your PC on. I have personally been able to commit 10 computers (including some neighbour's PC's whom I'm fixing) but need help with the remainder. How many can you provide for the test? On the day they will use zombies. Also I think we should change the code name to Botulinus - its appropriate on so many levels. Jollyfish.gifGenghisYou have the right to be offended; and I have the right to offend you. 05:09, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
I'm good for 3, 4 if my old laptop works still. Do they each need to get behind a different IP, or will they work from the same one? I'll see if I can scuttle up a few more, too. I agree on the code name. humanUser talk:Human 12:25, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
Being on the same connecion is not a problem as they use IP spoofing anyway. I've got most of mine connected to an 8-port router with the rest on wifi. Jollyfish.gifGenghisYou have the right to be offended; and I have the right to offend you. 12:32, 9 May 2008 (EDT)

I can bring about 100 systems online from various installations I've done over the years. I can ssh tunnel them through the main rig and we can handle the port allocs easily enough that way. DogP 13:38, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for the help on that. Can you get on the hidden namespace at the moment? It seems to be locked for our timezone. We need to get D-hour sorted so that everything is synched. I propose it be GMT on the 16th so can we please get an agreement on the actual hour so everyone is singing from the same hymn-sheet? Guys, guys, I think we're all becoming just a touch too open in these discussions. I know I'm equally to blame. Let's revert to email or Forum 3 if we're gonna chat like this. ides - Doubts[edit]

Having now found out what this is about I feel that it is appropriate to make my misgivings public. Some will already know my feelings about this. I am sorry about the public posting, but as there has been so much other public comment I felt it best to be in the open about this. I have two objections.

  • We are discussing a nuclear option here, the consequences of which will probably be severe and far-ranging. Are we really prepared to do this and have we thought through the consequences? The procedure we are envisioning will be nothing short of devastating, and I am not sure I want a part in it.
  • I am not at all sure about our new "allies". Although the seem to have been helpful (indeed surprisingly helpful) with the coding I, for one, don't trust them - and I don't mind saying so. Once they have control of so much information and access to so many passwords will they really just shrug and walk away. Somehow I don't think so.

So I make this public request that we think again before the process goes too far. --Bobbing up 09:04, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

Hi[edit]

Where the hell is everyone else today? This is/was Saturday! The day before I realize I have a lot to finish before Monday!

Refreshing the recent changes brought me no joy. :(

Um. So what are you up to. UchihaKATON! 00:13, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Wait, I see excitement not far above! I will leave it to the techie type people and await exciting results impatiently. UchihaKATON! 00:15, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
Just came in after a nice little campfire... Oh, SNL news, the only part of the show that *doesn't suck*! Then I will make me an omelet, and enjoy food... what's up with you? humanUser talk:Human 00:18, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
I am up late not studying for exams and seeking out new and exciting thrills on the interbutts.
Actually that's a lie, I'm just looking for recent and somewhat-interesting thrills on all my usual hangouts. "Ides" looked promising, but confidential. Hmm. UchihaKATON! 00:23, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
I also blocked a wandal a few minutes ago... I feel I should ask, do you think one day was excessive? He was, after all, linking to repulsive and disturbing content. I just figured since nobody else was on, it might be necessary to fix it such that it remains fixed until other janitors come back to help clean up as well. He was mildly amusing, so his block can be shortened if anyone cares. UchihaKATON! 01:54, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
Did you undo the wandalism? A day is a bit longer than we usually bother with, since an hour usually sends them away to other pastures. However, I would have no problem with one day. What I like, is when I look at our block list, that it fits on one screen... People tend to block for different time lengths, sometimes based on their experience, and sometimes based on the travesty the wandal is presenting to us. I'm sure you did fine. humanUser talk:Human 02:08, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Fox[edit]

You know, we already had a Headless Chicken Hour over this like twelve hours ago. Why bother reviving it now? Yes, dropping Nazi bombs ain't cool, but I think letting sleeping dogs lie may be a better call sometimes. (for the record, I blocked and unblocked Fox when this all went down.)PFoster 00:31, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Yeah... calling someone a Nazi is just "ok". Sorry, my trigger was late - because I spent some time thinking about it. It's not OK to call another editor a "Nazi" with no reasonable provocation (Gee, did the editor call for the extermination of the Jews? For the rise of the 4th Reich? No!!!). I called this one as I seed it. Fox was an ASSHOLE in this case, and deserves to get woken the fuck up. My block will most likely lapse by the time he awakes, but it should be on his record.
PS - what are your terms, degrees of talk, etc., by which you would call another editor a "Nazi"? If you want to absolve Fox, you really have to answer that question. I blocked him for just cause, in my opinion, and gently, considering the time of night. humanUser talk:Human 01:02, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
Now I HAVE to answer questions? Is that like last week when when Karajou told somebody - "You are going to answer that question whether you like it or not" ? And don't put words in my mouth - that's you being a bit of a jerk. I NEVER said it was "just ok" to call someone a Nazi. Okay then: my terms for calling someone a "Nazi" - I probably would not unless they were acknowledged, card-carrying members of some sort of white-supremacist/anti-semetic/racist group. It's not a word I throw around lightly. Other people have different standards, all the way down to folks who use the term "grammar Nazi." Fox was verbally abusive and obnoxious (he even told me to "fuck off) - but he also recently made an argument-not one I agree with, but one that I can at least understand - as to why his use of the term "Nazi" was warranted.I disagree wwith him, but I at least see where he was coming from. But the important thing to me - and others can tell me if they agree or not - is that I found it Karajou-esque for an admin to go digging through the edit histories and deal out a big block to a regular editor (not a bonehead vandal) the day after the offence happened, after a spot of HCM, after people had started to make a few tentative steps toward trying to patch things up a bit. Peace. PFoster 11:44, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
Well, it's all history now. I see he was unblocked after about 4 hours, which is fine, of course (I probably should have set the block at 3-5 hours or so, my intent was for it to be over by the time Fox was in daylight again, and the nine or so hours overshot that mark). The reason for my delay was to let it get resolved with all parties being able to edit (one problem with "HCM" is disputes getting hung up while some editors can't comment). Had he apologized, say, a few hours later, it certainly would have been a non-issue, we all sometimes say things that are over the top. Realizing that and admitting it is usually all it takes for feathers to become unruffled again. I didn't go digging through histories, by the way, I had simply kept the tab open to see how it worked out. Hopefully all is well by now. humanUser talk:Human 14:19, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
And I'm sorry for comparing you to Karajou. I'd rather be called a Nazi. PFoster 15:13, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Unblocking Fox[edit]

I've unblocked Fox (after 4 hours, 20 minutes) on the basis that 8-9 hours is a bit too long by our standards, plus the thing seems to have died out by now. Re-block him if you disagree. NightFlareSpeak, mortal 04:35, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

See above, I am fine with that. I should have set it at just a few hours anyway, I didn't want him to actually be prevented from editing. Just wanted to "put it on his record", as it were, without interfering in any dialog. humanUser talk:Human 14:21, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

More nefariousness[edit]

Hey, is it possible you could rename me so that my name has actual dots where there should be dots in an IP address? Right now it just doesn't look quite right, and it wouldn't let me put them in to start with (bad wiki, bad).— Unsigned, by: 225.225.225.225 / talk / contribs 14:31, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

I could try, although much wiki-breakage might occur (a dot might not be a legal character in a user name, or worse yet cause whackly parsing issues?). Also, if I might editorialize, the spaces make it easy to remember that you are you - the joke still works, I think. As far as the first thing I said, it is likely that "user:85.25.151.22" is reserved for direct editing by that IP address - how could the software tell the difference? Let me ask around, I might talk to Trent soon, if I remember I'll ask if it will work. I'd prefer to know one way or another first, rather than making a mess that has to be cleaned up on the server (and potentially screwing up your ability to edit until it's fixed). Okay? humanUser talk:Human 14:39, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, that's fine by me. Don't try anything that might screw up the software on my account! It's cool the way it is -- esp with my new sig.— Unsigned, by: 225.225.225.225 / talk / contribs 14:49, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Ah, I see. I picked Amlish for my FF speilchucker. We as a site are fine with using Commlish, Britlish, Amlish, etc., though we try not to mix them, unless very intentionally. All I would say is that Aschlafly is an American, so we should use Amlish on his article (whereas, say, an article about a British person or topic should be written in Comlish). humanUser talk:Human 11:54, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

The term 'Nazi'[edit]

When the term 'Nazi' is used in anger rather than in jest (like 'soup Nazi') it should be reserved for use against those who advocate genocide, or, at the very least, depriving an entire group of all their civil rights and confining them to a ghetto. It is not synonymous with the words "racist" "anti-semitic" or ""bigot". I'm not sure where it stands in relation to the term "fascist". I'd like to see Rationalwiki take a firm stance against innappropriate use of either term by users against other users unless there is clear evidence that the term is actually justified. Throwing either term around casually is an insult to the victims of the Holocaust, I don't see that as a joke. Rational Edbetter living through chemistry 15:31, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

Well, that's what I thought I did... btw, I think it's worse than "fascist" - for instance, I think the GWB admin comes very close to fascism, but they certainly aren't Nazis. A bit racist, probably, but not to Nazi levels. humanUser talk:Human 15:53, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

Do either of you actually know what Nazism is? SHahB 15:58, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

Yeah, National Socialism as practiced in Germany in the 30's and 40's. Now it is synonymous with the aggressive invasion of other nations and horrendous genocide along the way, and usually a nasty dose of anti-Semitism. Why do you ask? humanUser talk:Human 16:00, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

Angband[edit]

He wanted potentially identifying information to his person removed from his talk page, especially since he's interested in getting involved in the whole anti-MP thing. Since it's quite a way down in the history, I couldn't get rid of it without getting rid of quite a bit of other stuff. Is there an issue with that? --מְתֻרְגְּמָן שְׁלֹום

Yeah, we don't like to blank the history. There is a problem, since there is a simple solution to his having IDed himself - he could have simply created another user name, either abandoning Angband or maintaining it as a puppet. Having done it once, do we do it again? How much are we willing to "hide" permanently this way? Really. I tried purple text and it was a bit icky. What I was doing, following your lead, was allowing the blue link to stand out as obvious. Making it dark red sort of runs counter to the wiki user interface, right? humanUser talk:Human 20:43, 18 May 2008 (EDT)
Fair enough. It's just that anything other than blue on SEARING HOT YELLOW BACKGROUND is often hard to make out. The way that template is now is fine, though. Sorry to hear about the skwrls, I was quite fond of them. I think some are nesting in my walls as we speak, in fact. I must obtain some small sidearms to befriedn them with. Phonetically, as one, our three, or you, pronounce my name, it goes "H" - "u" - "w". Makes sense, no? No "G", no random trailing "H" at the end. My name isn't "Huggy" or "Huggghhh", it's just a nice, simple Walish "H-u-w". Maybe in Denamrk, where I understand you "earned" your law degree, they aren't as exacting. After all, how would Tommy Seebach pronounce my name? "Chghewchge", that's how. Also, if you want, start a debate topic on immigration, but let people respond to however you start it rather than quoting them in a place that may be out of context. ħumanUser talk:Human 17:02, 7 June 2008 (EDT)
Oh, don't worry, I don't consider it an intrusion if it is an honest attempt to help out, which it was. It would have been an intrusion if you put in "Hello, my name is Javascap and I am a remorsless racist who hates people who disagree with me". Which I doubt you would do (But there is always the slim chance!). As for the debate, I am getting to work on adding it in... sometime next week (Hey, I'm lazy, and the Pee Review toilet on Uncyclopedia is growing!) Javascap 17:44, 7 June 2008 (EDT)

Hi 2[edit]

I took it to talk. I don't hear any objections...? :) <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 01:21, 8 June 2008 (EDT)

How about giving other people a few hours to reply? From my short research, Elaine Morgan is most definitely a quote miner. You might want to appraise yourself of what you are defending. See you at the talk page... ħumanUser talk:Human 03:02, 8 June 2008 (EDT)

You!![edit]

I challenge you to an edit war! It is well known that Isaac Asimov was a Roman Catholic! <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 22:20, 8 June 2008 (EDT)

{yawn}... Perhaps Mr. Shabby would be up for some, er, "quality" debate? Go ring his bell at CP and see if his mother will let him out to play? ħumanUser talk:Human 22:24, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Go watch "Jellyfish" on Animal Planet and get to know your invertebrate cousins better! ħumanUser talk:Human 22:51, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
I already know all about jellyfish, silly Human. At the moment I am spying on Clownfish You heard nothing. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 22:53, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Jellyfish don't spy, they mostly drift... and clownfish do just fine playing in their anemone tentacles. I have had pets of all three ;) ħumanUser talk:Human 23:02, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
You forced my innocent jellyfish brethren to share a homestead with Clownfish??? You monster! Know you not of the Clownfish Agenda?
All three? <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 23:06, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Yes, but not in the same tanks, silly. That would not work. Jellyfish are fragile, and incredibly stupid, and require very special treatment. ħumanUser talk:Human 23:36, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Have you not heard of the Box Jelly? Lyra § talk 23:40, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
They may be "more evolved" (actually, we are all evolved exactly the same amount at any given time), but they are still travelers upon the currents, and sadly deficient in the largely silly weapon of cerebral cortex. ħumanUser talk:Human 23:53, 8 June 2008 (EDT)

Bones. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:17, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
What I lack in bones, I make up for in accurate knowledge of Syd Barrett's vital signs. Pwned. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 00:21, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
I didn't say he was dead. Eyes. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:28, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
The aforementioned Box Jellyfish has eyes. That's my contribution to this conversation. Lyra § talk 00:40, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

Box Jellyfish are disowned from the jellyfish Kingdom. They work for the Clownfish. No joke. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 00:47, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

When did he croak? I still have to fill out this sandbox, mostly with largely defensive weapons of stewed tentacles and deep-fried andromedae. You help is largely expected and hoped for. Ears. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:38, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Knees. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:43, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
You edit conflicted me for that?!?
Helping is for my associates. Syd Barrett died almost two years ago now -- in July 2006 according to Wikipedia. Ears to you too. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 00:47, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Helping is endemic to jellyfish, which cannot survive without cooperation. Opposable thumbs. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:48, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

Founding member of Pink Floyd; possible acid casualty, perhaps just rock retiree. "Wish you were here" (the whole album) is pretty much written for him. ("Shine on, you crazy diamond"...) ħumanUser talk:Human 00:55, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

It surely is. Where are you, nuclear testing grounds central? Hehehe @ the invertebrate. ħumanUser talk:Human 01:16, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
No, but my high school was literally across the street from a nuclear test reactor. Plus my town has a titanium plant. If you look at old Cold War-era maps of "likely areas for first strikes by Soviet nuclear attacks", quite a bit of Oregon was included. Nice, no? Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 01:24, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Nuclear test reactor? That sounds very amateurish. Did it have a "Caution: atoms" sign? <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 01:26, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
You force me to reminisce... back in the day of the cold war, I lived withing a twenty mile radius of an Air Force base, a nuclear submarine destrcution center (see wp:thresher, I bet it works) and a freaking nuclear power plant. Come the alert, I knew I had eight hours to glass. There was a Clash! song.... I forget the title... ħumanUser talk:Human 01:38, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Eh, sorry Jellyfish, I meant that it was one of those nuclear reactors built for research purposes and not power. It was run by the Department of Energy. You would think having it across the street from us would've made it a conversational gold-mine, but it was fairly inconspicuous, and despite the tall chain-link fence, barbed wire, and signs, it was quite ignorable. I myself was barely aware of it. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 02:52, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
You people and your threat of being destroyed in a nuclear holocaust..... If you take the "Places the Soviet's would have nuked map, I live in a state that wouldn't even make it to the map. (Unless missionaries made it to the Kremlin...... in which case, we would have been at the top of the list) Pinto's5150 Talk 05:42, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Oh hey, I am sure the US was perfectly comfortable defending Europe by letting it get glassed over. Not so much fun when Raygunz was playing swashbuckler, or even before, when the idea of "sacrificing" the Rhineland seemed OK - to people who didn't live there. But, I was within glass range of three serious targets. And I'm sure you were too. But most of the US was not, really. By the way, I have been charitable in interpreting what you wrote. What exactly did you mean??? ħumanUser talk:Human 05:50, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
