[edit] Red Links
Is there a way to find articles that have loads of redlinks? I'm envisioning a list of pages sorted by number of redlinks in descending order. Sort of like a reverse Wanted Pages. That might be an efficient way of going after them, and also of tracking down serial redlink-creators for horsewhipping goatwhipping.--Bayesupdate 16:18, 6 November 2007 (EST)

- Yeah, I know what you mean - a gold mine list. I try to find them by following "odd" entries on the wp list - scored two gems today, one a subpage of hoji's (it's his cp page, unedited, so it's full of links that don't work), and the awful [[essay:New World Order]] page, which I removed, I swear, a hundred links from today. (wp went from 905 to 770 in the last couple hours...). But there ought to be a way to do what you suggest. I just don't know how. So I'd suggesting asking Trent and/or Linus, they have more skills, especially on back end stuff, which might be required.
- Speaking of red links, do you want to remove this one, now that the essay is gone? (Anyone else, and I'd do it myself with an explanation and an apology, but I'd rather ask you first.) Thanks, Researcher 03:29, 19 December 2007 (EST)

Cheers for editing my stuff, I'm lazy at proof reading things. Question though, shouldn't Earth, the Sun and The Moon (when referring to Earth's natural satellite) be capitalised as proper names? --Jeēv☭sYour signature uses all my CPU time... 18:08, 27 November 2007 (EST)
- YVW. As far as that, it's a tough call sometimes. Certainly not with a "the" in front of them, no. It's "the moon, which we pretentiously call Luna, rules the night while the sun, a/k/a Sol, rules the day as seen from our planet, which we call Terra". See how Sol and Luna are like Jupiter, but the words earth, sun and moon are not proper nouns. Similarly, universe is not either. Since there was some slight inconsistency in the article, I decided to run the way I did - if it had been entirely internally consistent, I would have left it alone probably. The tough call is when "earth" is uaed without "the" - "The moon lights Earth's nighttime sky" vs. "The moon pees on the earth's evenings" makes my head potentially hurt. I've also got your creation/social history thing in my sights ;)

[edit] It would be funny, if it weren't so horrifying
Whilst I was wondering about dar interwebs, I came across this wonderfully loony site. I'll spare you the link to it, but it's called the "Liberty Guard of New America", one of those kooky militant anti-government sites. Oh, hell, here's the link: [1]. It's telling just how off-mainstream they are that the first ten listings in Google mentioning the organization consisted of newspaper articles mentioning them in passing and, believe it or not, their Myspace page. I found Ed Brown reasonable (or, as reasonable as holing yourself up in your wooded home and calling for revolution can be), right up until he started mentioning the Illuminati.
As for their revised constitution, this has got to be my favorite part:
"Freedom of Religion" therefore as such; shall be enforced in New America as the the public display of worship of Jesus The Christ alone. This preservation shall not include those who would chose to allegedly serve "god" through any "secret societies" or "closed to public access" dark questionable-christian formats that are punishable by penalty of law. It is NOT mandatory for one to be a protestant Christian in New America, but no other religion shall be preserved or protected by the New American Constitution. Neither shall any other religion be practiced in any public venue. Nor shall any other religion indoctrination materials or forms of persuasion be allowed. To attempt to do so is TREASON.
I half expect them to say something about upholding the white race, too.
Care to join me in ripping it apart, just for fun? --My cat is smarter than Andrew Schafly RA harass stalk 02:25, 6 December 2007 (EST)
- Hahaha, I think I have seen that before. It's, er, batshit insane of course. I find it hilarious - I would only find it scary if it were written in decent English. And used real math! Note in the Executive thing, it's a 12 member council, with 6 year terms, and two people are replaced every two years. Does not compute... In fact, even the opening section is fairly illiterate. Reads like it was written as a first draft by an angry drunk with poor language skills at 3 in the morning. The only drag to ripping it apart would be reproducing enough (or all) of it to be fair and clear - there's an awful lot of gibberish to be copied over, and our reader's eyes will fall out of their sockets. Still, it might be fun... do you want to whip up a format in a sandbox so we can see how it looks? human

[edit] Thanks (3)
Thanks for the prompt thing on the EC page. (I'm at work, and can't always look things up like I'd like.) If you're interested, two times when the popular vote winner lost the election were in 1820 (I think) when Jackson lost to JQ Adams, and in 1876 when Tilden lost to Hayes. However, in each case, it wasn't that one won the EC, but instead other factors were at play. (No one won the EC in 1820, sending it to the House; returns from 4 states were disputed in 1876, resulting in a VERY corrupt bargain.)
By the way--you seriously rock. Researcher 19:30, 6 December 2007 (EST)
- Aw, shucks, thanks. I'd return the compliment but then we'd have 12 other RWians over here telling us to get a room!
- One thing the current EC does do (I should mention it over there) is solve the "no one won" problem, especially in serious 3-way races. It let JFK win with just under 50%, and of course Clinton with under 40% (IIRC) in the '92 3-way race. Of course, there are better ways of doing this, my favorite of which is IRV. Instant Runoff Voting lets people vote for their real first choice first, and order their 2nd, 3rd, etc. after that, as I'm sure you know. Which would give 3rd (etc.) parties a chance to show their real support, even if they don't/can't win. EG, we'd know who Perot voters really undermined, Bush or Clinton, and Nader voters could have had Gore as a second choice, letting them feel free to vote their conscience first. I'm sure there are also examples where this would have helped a Republican, too, of course. human
15:11, 7 December 2007 (EST)
- (Get a room.)--Bobbing up 15:15, 7 December 2007 (EST)
- It *might* have helped Dewey, actually, since Strom's supporters were particularly pissed at Truman for integrating the military. I'm also a fan of that, but it would require a complete restructuring of our system in each state. Though it might be possible to do in ONE state, but then almost every state ends up going for one person or another anyway. (What I mean is, even if a third party gets enough votes nationally to keep the winner in a plurality, the winner still gets the majority in each of the states they win, if I understand thing correctly. But I could be wrong; I've never studied the state vote breakdowns before.) Researcher 15:18, 7 December 2007 (EST)
- Yes, pretty much. It results in someone eventually getting over 50% no matter how split up the votes are. As far as boosting 3rd (etc.) parties, it would let people vote Green or Libertarian (EG) first, and Dem or GOP second - signalling support for their ideal candidate without "throwing away their vote". Meaning we would see how many people really held those beliefs. I think the results might be surprising. As far as implementing IRV, yes, I think it would happen at the local/state "incubator" level first. Whether it would be used to eliminate the EC or not is another question, since that's in the darn constitution. I do believe there are some activist groups trying to instate IRV in some cities; and also there are other countries/lovalities using it. But that's off the top of my head, without researching what "I think I know", hehe. Like my dumbass thing about JFK/RMN. Which is why I yanked it ASAP from the EC article - I was the idiot who put it in there... human
15:24, 7 December 2007 (EST)
[edit] sysop powers activate
Alright, so I apologized. Give me my sysop powers back and I will come make life more interesting at RW. Heart♥GoldSwarm like a hive 01:14, 12 December 2007 (EST)
- So I saw, over at BobM's talk page. & he accepted, so the past is the past. Apparently, the mob wants to "vote" on it. My personal feeling (if I felt free to act on my own & ignore the mob) would be to say, "how about making life more interesting for a week or two first?" Someone suggested a 3 month probation on your talk page, which I think is absurd for a 6 month old wiki, but what I usually do is if I see a new, busy editor who seems to have the site's goals in their sights, I figure they might as well be a sysop so they can block vandals as well. And that usually only takes a week or two. I'll go paste something like this on the "vote" debate at your talk page...
- By the way, I know you probably didn't mean it, but the wording of your request above is almost like an ultimatum. human

Thanks very much. I promise to use my powers for good and not evil. Is there a "so you're a sysop now" brochure I need to read or sump'n? PFoster 15:20, 12 December 2007 (EST)
- I'm not sure if there's a concise set of advice anywhere. If there is, Susan probably wrote it and put it under "help". I was thinking as I just demoted you and Edgerunner76 that a "newsysop" template would be cool, and could link to a "sysop guidelines" article, if we wrote it. We'll see if I get any work done today, if I do I might try to create them. And, you're welcome! human

Exponentials aren't a nice enough way to express your chances. Rather than 999, how about 999. Look up tetration. Thats a big number. --Shagie 17:35, 13 December 2007 (EST)

[edit] Hey
I know what you said, but I amn't really bothered with an encyclopedic entry on Libertarianism. I love satire. The article on Libertarianism is just silly looking. RW isn't an encyclopedia, so why would I write one? I think someone should write a satirical entry... but not one that merely misrepresents it and comes out with a ream of cliches... Hope I've made things clearer, and sorry if I offended you at all. MarcusCicero 18:47, 13 December 2007 (EST)
- No offense taken... the tough thing is that we don't really do "pure" satire - we are trying to actually cover things, although with our POV (the one ont he main page), and, with our seemingly endless need to make at least ourselves laugh. Pure satire belongs on uncyclopedia, I think. Or I bet liberapedia would love a good satire of libertarianism. So, is that the only article here that you've read, or just the only one you think is "silly looking"? After all, this is a wiki, and everything is a work in progress. Maybe no one wants to work on that article on this particular day when you request us to rewrite it? human

[edit] Crazy Constitution thingy
I finished my commentary...what the heck should we title it, and what namespace does it go in? Researcher 16:37, 14 December 2007 (EST)
- Well, first, I think the mainspace would be fine. However, if there's a lot of first person voice in it from you, or if you don't want it mercilessly "improved", then it should go in essay. As far as a title... do we know the name of the "group" that made this thing up? As an essay, it could just be "Constitutional lunacy" or something. Hmm, that would work in main, too, I guess. "Alternative consitution for an alternative universe" is a bit long... the lunacy one is easy to remember and might actually get linked once in a while. Give me a link when you put it up, will ya? human

[edit] Some issues with Ray Comfort articles
While randomly cleaning up the Discovery Institute article yesterday, I found a problem with something Feredir added. I then turned my attention back to a list of his articles I'd been meaning to go through and noticed that he is responsible for ginormous walls of text, just absolutely massive amounts that work out to comprise the bulk of our largest articles. These include some of the articles that Google ranks highly that you and I have discussed. So I was looking at the 4th longest article on the wiki and found a few more problems. I'm exquisitely sensitive to the possibility of getting this kind of thing wrong and I'd be mortified about saying the wrong thing. I'd appreciate your input and counsel. ![]()

- I remember trying to edit some of those reviews into shape a year or so ago. They're uniformly horrible and, since they're mostly a one-person vanity project, should go in user/essay space at best. - Actually, what he does is whine, and say "then I'll take my ball elsewhere", threatening to make some new anti-Comfort wiki type thing. I don't know of your discussions with The Nut, but in my own view, we need quality articles on these books, cause Comfort, along with DI, and AIG, and whoever is the new kid on the block, need to be refuted. [edit] Cheers Human
I read your comments in the coop. I'm touched, deeply touched. I'm five chapters into my George R.R. Martin inspired novel (A satire of RW). Unsurprisingly, you will play a major role in it. This most recent episode has thankfully helped get me over a nasty period of writer's block.
I haven't left. They may have banned me but I will always be hear. The voice of liberty can only be silenced by tyranny - never extinguished. So long as my ideas survive, so will I. You must carry the torch and fight the cockroaches to the last inch of your being. Never give up. Never surrender. Don't leave. Make them ban you. become a martyr. The more martyrs they create, the more powerful our movement will become. The aspies may have created this bureaucracy, but in time we will rise up and crush the rotten superstructure they have created.
I believe Foster the Cruel can amend his past evil ways. I don't believe him to be the root of all problems here. No, it is to the Sophist we must draw our ire, and challenge at all costs. He argues well and it is difficult to challenge him. But he has a fatal weakness. He is incredibly arrogant. We must prick him of his pomposity. We must crush him.

[edit] Vermont Secession
Greetings! (If you've ever received a draft notice, I know I've gotten your attention.) I recently found RW and am trying to add what meager knowledge I'm afflicted with about all things secessionist. I have a blog about the Vermont secesher movement here.
I was pawing through the Alaskan Independence Party article today and found an edit of yours from more than 4 years ago that reads, "No one panics when Vermont considers secession every few weeks, after all." It's a bit of snark that I'd like to reword so that it doesn't feed the meme that there's actually a meaningful movement here. The number of people that could be called secessionist activists in Vermont number somewhere under 50. They refer to themselves as a "small community." What about a half a dozen of them have been somewhat successful in doing is promoting the illusion to the out of state media that Vermonters get up in the morning and ask themselves, "How can I advance the cause of secession today?"
I've started an article about the Second Vermont Republic that may give you a sense of where I'm headed but it's by no means near finished.
Thanks, T.

There is good stuff in that article but it's not well written. My own writing is way too dense with sentences that are way too long. Some of what I and others wrote is still incomprehensible. It is cringe-inducingly humiliating to me that we've yet to reply to CMI directly responding to our responses. I wanted to take a run at tuning up the main article before jumping into replying to the responses since it comes up so high on google and still isn't. It should be a flagship article

[edit] Transphobia issues
You might want to brush up on some of the current issues in the trans community. The writers you deleted articles about are generally known within the community for being fiercely anti-trans, and Cathy Brennan's antics of recently have bordered on criminal harrassment in a couple of cases. It's probably safe to say that a few of the articles (particularly Germaine Greer's) really are deficient, but I don't think deleting the transphobia parts is the answer. EVDebs (talk) 08:31, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
- I agree. But it seemed like someone was on an equally hateful mission. A one-issue mission. "Fiercely anti-trans" I do not think I found, which is why I deleted the garbage. I suppose the very usage of the phrase "tranny" is like calling them "queer"?

I moved it back to article space. Because it is an article. You whined about the first person material. So I took it out. It took about 12 minutes. You could have done the same. It would have been far more useful. TeenageWasteland (talk) 14:52, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Human, the Banking crisis is a travesty of crap. Makes RW look irrational and ignorant. It was written by british socialists with a hard on against maggie thatcher without a clue of US law, politics, or regulatory environment. Here's useful material, but the damn commies won't let me edit the page.

[edit] If you could please tell Dr. Toulouse thank you for hosting my amateur encyclopedia writing.
I deeply appreciate that you have information here absent from Wikipedia, like the page for Fundamentalist Mormonism for example. I also really appreciate you'd accept the absence of any studies to be noted when the unexplored variables are painfully obvious even to laymen like myself. I only have one edit I felt were unnecessarily reverted, when I said the developmental speed of the primitive streak was likely connected, for the most part my stay here was without incident and I made a few improvements to the articles arguments.
I have but a small favor to ask, I would like for one of the higher ups at Rational wiki to vouch for me to the Wikipedia Arbcom, for what ever affect that may have. I felt my time was better spent here than editing Memory Alpha, even though the only reason I was blocked from Wikipedia was because of over categorizing fiction, it seems at times like none at Wikipedia even remember that I mostly edit non-fiction. I learned my lesson about adding hundreds of categories in a day and having to use printed sources for media studies still.
Well, that's about it. Thanks for doing all this for free, or I guess less than free in the case of whose paying to host this. My only regret here is that I never really got the house style of humor. Amateur Encyclopedist (talk) 23:28, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
[edit] What's your opinion on Exiled Encyclopedist's infestation of this wiki?
Based off what you say about your self, I'd say we have similar views on most issues (not on guns); but I would prefer hearing your opinion on my edits. I'm sorry if you get in trouble for anything I've said. I guess if your Human, than I'm Vampire. I'll be leaving now, the parts on religious views towards abortion are as valid to include in the stem cell research section as absolute heat is for the big bang. Beginnings can be as difficult as endings. Also why do you even have fiction pages at all if people can't cite them to make the devil and God look stupid using the arguments of Gene Roddenberry and the writers of the David Tennant's run as Doctor Who, do you want more or less talk of fiction? The devil is just an idea, and Kirk doesn't care about appearances, only actions.
- On a much more serious note, could I get your assistance with Rape, Genetic Engineering and my edits to presidential slavery? I'm also having trouble with Ryulong in the chicken coop. They are about to ban me for having no use, despite being on most of the pages on this Wiki. Exiled Encyclopedist (talk) 00:43, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

"Most members of the conventional press are, of course, cowardly minds. They almost universally buy the corporate spin (or the White House spin) and never ask any tough questions anymore. Some of the REAL heroes -- the people who are asking intelligent questions about our world -- include:
- Alex Jones
- Jeff Rense
- Charlotte Gerson
- Jonathan Landsman
- David Icke
- Jesse Ventura
- Gerald Celente
- Ron Paul
- Robert Scott Bell
- Dr. Andrew Wakefield
- Suzanne Somers
- Dr. James Forsythe
- George Noorey
Do you see a pattern here? Each one of these individuals has been marginalized or viciously attacked and slandered simply because they chose to ask intelligent questions about the world around them. Now, I don't agree with every single thing said by each one of these people, but I admire each of them for having the courage to ask the questions that need to be asked if we are to move forward as a society (and civilization).

- I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Human's quoting that not for something he agrees with, but for...something. A list of people we need articles on? B/c I doubt that Human would respect almost anyone on that list. And besides Wakefield, Rense, Icke, and Jones, etc., the page that's coming from claims there's a cure for cancer. So to say that Human's posting that as something he agrees with means Human possibly the biggest deep-cover mole in internet history. ThunderkatzHo! 05:04, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] From an email about the Texas biology textbook controversy
"The most recent review of biology textbooks was a particularly egregious process considering the people who were invited to participate. Here are just a few of the reviewers who are listed in the Creation Science Hall of Fame as “Darwin Skeptics”4:
- Raymond Bohlin, a research fellow for an organization whose purpose is the promotion of “intelligent design” — a religious idea which seeks to cast doubt on evolution while circumventing the Supreme Court ruling that bars the teaching of “creation science” in public schools.5
- Walter Bradley, who helped launch the "intelligent design” movement with a book he coauthored, titled The Mystery of Life's Origin.
- Ide Trotter, a wealthy funder of anti-science organizations who has repeatedly participated in science textbook reviews advocating for the inclusion of scientifically discredited theories about the weaknesses of evolution."
