[edit] Autopatrolled

Your edits seem useful and constructive, so although you've only been around for a bit, I've autopatrolled you. This means your edits will stop leaving red exclamation marks all over the place. It might do some other stuff I don't remember, like allow you to avoid Captcha or something. - Grant (talk) 21:23, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

I make one little mistake and this is my punishment? Wow, REDACTED years ago that would have made for a very different childhood. MarmotHead (talk) 21:41, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry to have done this to you, but you had it coming. Now all you can do is suffer! - Grant (talk) 22:15, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Sysop

I'm sorry, you've been useful and a sensible editor in public. Such behaviour cannot go unpunished - David Gerard (talk) 12:54, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Now look what you've done. You have even more responsibilities than those I foisted upon you earlier! Tsk tsk. - Grant (talk) 13:57, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
We must quell this uprising of common sense immediately! Zero (talk) 14:08, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Who is this sensible sane guy you're talking about? I guess I'll have to keep up the act some more ... MarmotHead (talk) 16:12, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Groupthink

Nothing personal at all -- see the message here for why my big revert. TeenageWasteland (talk) 19:55, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

No offense taken. I didn't notice the article's space. Also, my move was a bit arrogant and impatient ... MarmotHead (talk) 20:12, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
I felt sorry for you that your edit was reverted after you put so much work into it. I copied it to Groupthink so your work won't be lost. Proxima Centauri (talk) 06:17, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! Actually, it was 10 minutes of reading stuff and a burst of writing. Next time I try that, it'll come out like a sixth grader making a short story out of a grocery list.MarmotHead (talk) 14:19, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Repilied on my talk page about Genetics of race - that's what you were talking about, right? Kassorlae (talk) 18:36, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Yup. I'm pretty good at guessing/explaining new things, but also prone to making dumb mistakes. MarmotHead (talk) 18:48, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Nah, it was just a little ambiguous which article it was. Had to think there for a little bit. Switching tasks from Excel to RW Kassorlae (talk) 20:12, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

You're welcome! It's a great thing to do with a dead brain and access to the internet. MarmotHead (talk) 17:19, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Feeding trolls

Oh noes! I fed the troll

I don't know enough about the studies, meta-studies, rebuttals, or empty bottles to have an opinion. In cases like this, after a few sallies back and forth my tendency is to roll back persistently without comment. Also page protection. Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 19:29, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Good advice. You're now to blame for a minute increase in my wisdom as well as a tentative foray into slide guitar. MarmotHead (talk) 19:32, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
If you have the ready cash, you can now buy bottlenecks at the music store. Better than the home-made ones, since you're less likely to cut yourself on the jagged edge, or get arrested for carrying one around. BBC Transatlantic Sessions: Ste. [edit] "A younger version of me"…

You said that I was like you when you were young. Just out of curiosity, how so? Also, when you were how young? Finally, what do you mean by "less painful"? MESSIAH OF DOOM Adorn the new king…Dolan.png 12:02, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

I might be full of shit, but it was about 20 years ago. I was direly depressed (diagnosable, almost institutionally), ambitious but unfocused, creative but not creating. I was sensitive to others (in good and bad ways). I was an attention whore (to use your words). I was a misfit among "normals" (too odd) and among misfits (not odd enough). Music had all the answers (OK, that's still true!). I see pain in you. That's not psychic powers or woo or even science, just an intuitive sense. To be fair, I (and everyone) tend to view the world through my own biases, so I could be, and hopefully am, wrong. MarmotHead (talk) 14:35, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Dude. You're not me from the future are you? All jokes aside, that is actually like, 98.643% accurate. MESSIAH OF DOOM Don't read look every behind second you wordDolan.png 13:08, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, Michael J Fox played us in an extremely fictionalized version of our story.
Seriously, if that's you're story, you're on a good path, taking small steps (college, for example) that lead to other better things in the future. The road may be bumpy (even dangerous), but it goes to good places. MarmotHead (talk) 14:56, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

[edit] DIABEETIS

Just saw that additional link on Causation/Correlation. I probably should've been a bit clearer (sorry!) -- Yep, you're correct; I was more referring to "different types of obesity" that the footnote talks about. All I could find talking about "types of obesity" was based on categorizing by BMI/weight class. Noir LeSable (talk) 20:02, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

(And thanks for the BMI comment, by the by! If there's anything you see that needs correcting, please do so/let me know! I've been trying to brush up on weight-related science/woo ever since it kinda hit home personally.) Noir LeSable (talk) 20:08, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that your targeted point is nebulous/wrong (i.e. you are correct to doubt it). I don't know what the right version is though. I'm just a humble statistician working on other folk's obesity data.
Side note: with this section title, I finally I know what Wilford Brimley's cue cards looked like. MarmotHead (talk) 20:13, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Feminist talk page

Do I need to do anything special in order to reply? I'd like to ask the most recent poster why the study is "dumb." It's a peer-reviewed research paper published in a fully accredited scientific journal.

Hey again, sorry to bother. For whatever reason, I don't think I'm going to be able to edit that page today. Regardless, is there a way of creating a debate page? If possible, could you create one for a specific topic? I know this might be asking a lot, but I think it's an important issue that feminists (in MY experience) refuse to acknowledge without labeling me an MRA (which I detest, as I am no MRA) or a misogynist. I truly believe based on the available scientific evidence that feminists are wrong about gender stereotypes. I believe that biologically, women are naturally more nurturing, and that they are predisposed to certain tendencies even if nurture should override this in a sense. Is there a way to debate this issue as a topic? Because I think that there's this idea written into the articles here that the opposite is correct: that nature takes a backseat to nurture. Parogar (talk) 18:48, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
There is a way to do that. It'll be the kind of page know as "Forum", I think. You may face some anti-MRA sentiment here, too, since we've occasionally been bombarded by real MRA crap. Whether you deserve it or not, the actions of others may result in a little spillover onto you. Tread carefully!
As for your gender difference ideas, I disagree, but not for purely scientific reasons. Thus, I'll mostly keep my participation in the debate inside my own head! I would prefer it, however, if such gender difference discussions were restricted to talk of tendencies and effort placed on reducing the societally-induced parts. But that's my preference. MarmotHead (talk) 18:57, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
I read this after I posted it. I found out how to start a debate. Ah, I'll read it over and see if I put anything down. Also, I'm not an MRA. I don't like Men's Rights Activists. I find it ... there's really no other word than "obnoxious" for middle-aged white men to march up and down whimpering about white men inequality. Parogar (talk) 19:12, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
For MRAs, I hear ya. You made a credible start on the debate page, it seems, and are on your way. Enjoy! MarmotHead (talk) 19:14, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

[edit] I am very sorry

I was wrong in how I spoke to you, and I was extremely, unnecessarily rude in my replies. I should not treat anyone this way and I hope you will accept my apology. Parogar (talk) 21:14, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

No problem. I wasn't offended. Yes, you felt strongly about your point, but you didn't actively insult me, so that's cool! MarmotHead (talk) 21:21, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

I saw what you wrote about gender roles. If nothing else, I can empathize with you now. I'm usually absentminded when it comes to the whole empathy thing. Parogar (talk) 21:50, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Some statements on Feminism page

Hey, I've been reading an article on feminism, found a few unsupported statements (or, even worse, some links were _not_ supporting what had been stated).

Posted what I found on talk page; the reaction that I got was:

> Way too tired for BoN whining today

I saw you were active on that page as well, just give you a heads-up to review the article (don't really want to start editing the article itself just now) - and also wanted to ask if that's an accepted behaviour on RW.

No user will be stood up against the wall for being rudely (or politely) dismissive. You can't force people to pay you attention. And the fact that one user is not willing to engage with you is not the end of the world - other people may be happy to do so.--ZooGuard (talk) 17:37, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
> user is not willing to engage with you
That would've been fine. He _did_ pay attention and engaged with me - only to write off what has been said, and insult me.
Okay, I understood that it's considered acceptable here.
