If tedious pedantry makes your eyes glaze over, never mind reading the following:

I believe that "to have salt in one's pumpkin" is an old Italian (maybe even ancient Roman) idiom describing intelligence, the kind that resembles common sense. So, taking something cum grano salis means using your own judgement before accepting something at face value.

I didn't want to alter your flow of prose in the page on Nassim Haramein, so I left "with less than a grain of salt" alone. Now I'm sitting here trying to work out how it is actually a clever metaphor for credulity, and my brain hurts. Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 13:50, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
