You iz one. Read this.... TheoryOfPractice (talk) 20:28, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Whoah! Already? Seriously fast demotion... SuspectedReplicant (talk) 20:33, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah; I had to wait two months, and I had to ask. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 20:36, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh dear. I don't know what's worse... that your sig is in Tengwar, or that I already had that font installed.
Second thoughts: I think I do. /me slinks away in self-pity SuspectedReplicant (talk) 20:42, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
SR, I think you just won a cookie, right PH? — Signed, by: Neveruse513 / Talk / Block 20:43, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
You both get cookies! Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 20:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, you needn't have the font installed; I was given some CSS magic that displays it on most modern browsers. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 20:51, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the cookie, but I actually did have it installed... and I actually did recognise it. Now I must away lest I start speaking Elvish, mellon. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 20:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm using a sized-up version, kindly provided by Nx; does the text come out in normal size for you? Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 21:00, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Seems to, yeah. All Tengwar stuff looks a little small because of the accents, but that looks just right. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 21:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
If you want, the resized file is here. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 21:42, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

you may be right[edit]

Look man, you are probably right. It is harsh to wish a terminal illness upon someone. My point was that this "commie rot" comment was so much harsher in the light of reality. My family member would not have received the wonderful treatment they did under any privatised health system. And to have RobS cheapen it with his sour and dour remarks really fucks me off. Ace McWickedModel 500 11:15, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't let it bother you Ace, RobS is an irrational cunt and it is frustrating talking to him because nothing enters his head. He can't get past his 1950s paranoia about reds, which he pretty much admitted he doesn't really understand. It is sad that any decent social project can be derailed by playing the communist card because of people like him. - π 11:21, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
I agree with you about health systems, and I agree that RobS is an appalling person. I agree that his "commie rot" comment was, even for him, a fucking disgraceful one that makes you wonder how much lower he can go. It was just the illness thing. I've had several relatives and one friend die from cancer, and another friend had to go through a painful and scary treatment to rid herself of it. That's why I got a bit upset. All good; back to business. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 11:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Indeed, back to business. Business trumps all. Business and this haunting hangover which I can feel creeping out of my eyes. Ace McWickedModel 500 19:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Evidence would suggest that humans enjoy hangovers, given the amount of money we spent on them. I'm currently in the process of creating a beauty. Tonight's ingredients are: 2×litre bottles of vodka (THAT should scare RobS) (don't worry - I won't be drinking all of both bottles) and some diet coke. Before anyone points it out, I am well aware of the words from that great sage of modern times, Paris Hilton, who said "Only fat people drink diet coke". I'm also well aware of the words of that other great sage of modern times, me, who said "Diet coke tastes like shit". In my defense, I can only say this: a) too late; b) I finished the proper coke last night and I'm left with the wrongly-delivered shit from a couple of weeks back.
The thought occurs that I was too busy being offended to be a proper human being. Ace, I wish your relative all the best and I sincerely hope he or she recovers quickly. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 20:36, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately people do not "recover" from cancer, they are just in remission. It's like a sword of Damocles hanging over them for the rest of their life. Every time my wife feels a new ache in her body she gets worried that the 'C' is back. Oh Ace, did you copy my idea for listing all the free treatment that socialised medicine supplied for your relative? Redchuck.gif ГенгисYou have the right to be offended; and I have the right to offend you. 20:59, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
You are, unfortunately, right. Please consider my earlier statement reworded accordingly, but with all the sentiment retained. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 21:25, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
It wasn't really a criticism, it's just the media often talks about "cancer cures" and those without direct experience of the condition regard a successful course of treatment as a cure, but those in the front line know differently. Indeed, your sentiments were well intentioned. In my own case, my wife has now been in remission for five years and her (NHS) consultant is confident that she will continue for a good while longer - she was very fortunate to have an identical twin who was able to provide clean stem cells for a transplant. But others that I know have not been so fortunate; my colleagues wife had breast cancer follwed by a double mastectomy and lymphectomy after my wife and has recently been diagnosed with secondaries in the brain. I can also think of maybe five or six others in my limited circle of aquaintances who have also been diagnosed with cancer in recent years. The costs of private treatment would be horrendous and renewing a policy after a lot of expensive treatment is very difficult unless you are wealthy. The NHS is not perfect but for the most part it works for most of the people which is really all one can expect from a universal scheme. Redchuck.gif ГенгисYou have the right to be offended; and I have the right to offend you. 21:46, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
I didn't take it as a criticism, and I'm sure it wasn't, but with hindsight: it should have been and I should have done. It was a very sloppy post (by me). "Could XXXXX be a cure for cancer" is an easy, attention-grabbing headline for TV and newspapers, and they succumb too often. My first experience of the disease was... 17 years ago. One of my grandmothers was dying of cancer and I, at university and newly-acquainted with the internet - such as it was back then - looked to find anything I could. There was a decent amount of Woo even back then.
It's a slip that is also encouraged to some extent by the medical profession - for the best of reasons. "We've dealt with the main problem, but this illness never goes away so you'll be back here in 10 years, tops" isn't going to reassure anyone.
As an aside, my maternal grandmother actually took up smoking after she was diagnosed. In her own words: "I always wanted to try it, and I've got the perfect reply if anybody tells me it causes cancer". Gallows humour at its best. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 22:17, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanking you SuspectedReplicant. Now, a question, you're walking in the desert and you find a tortise laying on its back.....Ace McWickedModel 500 23:47, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
(It might be the great God OM!) I really feel that I ought to contribute to this discussion, I've tried to several times but I think I'll let you guys talk it out. I am eating Toast& honeychat 00:02, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Funny you should talk about your maternal grandmother and smoking. Mine and Ace's close associate, since being diagnosed, has decided they would like to experiment with the herb. Rad McCool (talk) 23:52, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Arabpride's block[edit]

While I understand that a good revenge block sometimes makes you feel good (I, too have been guilty of that before), there is no point in blocking someone who is already vandal binned, since they can only edit once per hour anyways. Not trying to step on your nuts, but there is little point in blocking someone for an hour if they can only make one edit in that hour anyways. Cheers.Lord of the Goons (talk) 21:37, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Which talkpage you wanna take this up on?Lord of the Goons (talk) 21:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Oi! It's not a revenge block since I've got no axe to grind with Arabpride at all. I saw vandalism. I saw the user was in the V/bin but continued anyway so I went for a block. If that was wrong, then I'm sorry. And discussions should always take place on the original page or you end up getting whiplash flicking from one talk page to another. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 21:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
No, I know about talkpages, but you and I were simultaneously writing on eachother's talkpages, and it was only after I saved yours that I saw you left a message for me. Again, I understand the need to jst shut people up sometimes, but I remember a few months ago when I blocked someone in the vandal bin (the infamous Marcus Cicero) and got lambasted by the majority of the 'crats here because "That's what the vandal bine was created for, and the one thing they do in that hour is easily undone."Lord of the Goons (talk) 21:50, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

History[edit]

Yes, I was rpeh.

I started using a different name because I realised I'd burned too many bridges by pushing too hard when I didn't know enough about the subject matter, so I started again. I apologise to all those who I offended before. If anybody requires an individual apology, I will be happy to give it.

I think we can all agree that there are bigger and more important targets that need hitting before we start aiming at each other, and I wish I hadn't detracted from that. SuspectedReplicant (talk) 23:00, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

You're rpeh? I thought you got a rough ride, personally speaking. Totnesmartin 18:57, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes I did, but it didn't excuse me deliberately being a right fucking pain in the ass. Thank you for having me back. SuspectedReplicant 18:59, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Tea in first[edit]

Or not? I am undecided on the matter. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 18:47, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

It depends. The "polite" way is milk first, then tea and I usually do it that way, not to be polite but because I find it easier to judge the amount of milk. Tea first is the way Douglas Adams recommended (Salmon of Doubt) and is generally believed to produce a better-tasting final product because the milk doesn't get scalded. I remain to be convinced.
The important thing is that all of those little bags of tea with strings on them get destroyed and never darken the face of the Earth again. Tea must be made in a pot. Preferably china, although my current one is stainless steel I'm afraid to say. SuspectedReplicant 18:52, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, tea bags are far more practical, but I agree that the tea made is highly inferior. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 19:21, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Tea bags I don't mind. Tea made in the cup is an abomination! And yes, I do it sometimes but it's wrong! WRONG I say! SuspectedReplicant 19:24, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
I do it too! I'm so ashamed! *sobs* Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 19:26, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
There, there. We can console each other in our debauchery. We should be safe from ridicule though - Americans only drink something called "karfee" and Aussies only drink fizzy lager. It's a fact. I read it somewhere. SuspectedReplicant 19:28, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
I have heard strange and terrifying tales of this land called America. It is said that they make tea as weak as bathwater, and that one can only find real tea in British speciality shops. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 19:31, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
It seems a strange country indeed. Their previous leader declared war on tourism while declaring himself a merkin and their current one is trying to inflict socialism on poor children by telling them to work hard in school. I know colonies are rarely very sophisticated, but they seem to go too far. SuspectedReplicant 19:39, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

This is why.[edit]

Go here. This is what MC does to everyone. He'll pick someone and just lay into them. That's all he does here. Sure he seems clever enough, but he is an abusive little man, not just abusive in response to people, but abusive for the sake of being abusive. Ace McWickedModel 500 20:45, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Thank gawd you're back. I really appreciated your contributions before, and I hated to see you go. Lord of the Goons The official spikey-haired skeptical punk 01:12, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks.... although I only did the bare minimum above talk, talk, talk. I'm not sure I'm back but I'll see how things go. As long as editors stop taking more swings at fellow editors than at the site's supposed targets... maybe. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 01:16, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. It got pretty fucking riduculous before the HCM, but now, I think, we have become a better community as a result. Trus me, this place has gotten a lot better over the last few days. People are finally starting to remember this places' roots. AnarchoGoon Swatting Assflys is how I earn my living 01:18, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I made a personal bet with myself that I wouldn't return until serious tit-for-tat blockings weren't appearing on Recent Changes (when I was looking - Schrodinger in action). It looks like that isn't happening at the moment so I'll dip my toe in the water again. I enjoyed being part of this site and I hope I can help it in the future. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 01:22, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for giving us another chance. I agree that this site spun out of control for a while there. But, like I said somewhere else, the team getting pissed off at each other is just a natural part of team building. Once we get passed the HCM, we energy a much stronger team than before. Hell, more original articles have been made in the last few days, I would argue, than in the last few months. The Goonie Punk Can't sleep, clowns will eat me! 01:26, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I couldn't help but interrupt to voice my agreement - it has been a shitty month round here really but I think we are calming down and realising our mistakes. For my part I have emailed apologises to those I have flamed. Things can only look up eh? Acei9 01:27, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Fundraiser[edit]

Hey, I was about to head to bed, but before I did I wanted to clarify something that you seem to have misinterpretted in the forums. What I meant about the tub of beans thing was that I wouldn't want to do anything that would render literally gallons of food inedible (ie, me sitting in a tub of beans), when there are so many hungry people in the world who desperately need food. Possibly another case of me phrasing something poorly (I do it alot).--Mustex (talk) 07:20, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I got it, but I'm probably being a little oversensitive. It looked like, having got a bit scolded over the YouTube thing, you were then jumping on the first high horse that rode past. Apologies for the overreaction. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 07:22, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

WIGO[edit]

Excellent! 00:28, 14 March 2010 (UTC) SusanGContribsTalk

I applaud your self-control - if it were me, I would have used the term "irony meter" at least twice. Tetronian you're clueless 01:16, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
I was (indirectly) told off for having an exploding irony meter in a previous WIGO so I've learned my lesson. The trickiest part in this case was trying to work out whether or not the beer was causing me to see things: I couldn't believe even Ed could be that daft. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 11:25, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Anti-American[edit]

I know. Don't do that. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 16:54, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
This place isn't supposed to be anti-American central. Your hate of Americans and everything American is wrong. Stop it. It's not rational. I'm proud to be an American, the USA is a great nation ... and I'm an atheist by the way. Apparently Americans aren't welcome on this site, to contribute or participate unless they're hardcore left-wing anti-Americans. Wait, are Americans allowed on here at all? Apparently not. 209.62.85.107 (talk) 17:12, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
I don't hate America. I don't even hate the United States of America. I don't hate any country. Except perhaps the Vatican. I also hate people taking the attitude that their country can do no wrong. Instead of removing every little thing that offends you about the USA, why not add some content on how the British Empire was responsible for atrocities all around the world, or how we tested nukes on Australian aborigines then refused any kind of compensation? –SuspectedReplicant retire me 17:19, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
If you're talking about this, I'm not sure how that could be considered Anti-American. I had a nice chuckle over it, and as an American, I don't even care about the New York Giants. -- VradientHit me up 17:22, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
I'm a Giants fan and I don't even care that much. Tetronian you're clueless 17:30, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually I was thinking about doing that, putting in some edits about the atrocities committed by the British Empire in the way that U.S. based articles point out all the atrocities committed by the U.S. (love how the British Empire article is squeaky clean), but let's face it ... it would be removed in an instant. The majority of people on this site are from the UK. Anything that puts the UK in a bad light, despite the fact that it is historically factual, will be removed. The fact of the matter is that this isn't new, this has happened before when it's been attempted in the past. Thanks, but no thanks, I'm done with contributing to this site ... there's much other better atheist based sites out there that aren't biased to a British atheist POV. If this site is to be British atheist orientated, simply specify that. The rest of us will get on with it and move on and find a site where atheists will be welcomed regardless of their nationality and where there's more to it than just debunking everything Conservapedia puts out. Besides, my main account has been blocked and I have to resort to using proxies. Peace. 208.110.80.250 (talk) 17:35, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
It might be a little hard for us to say that we are a British atheist site, given the number of Americans here and the fact that the site is owned and run by an American living in Canada. Evil bastard Phantom Hoover! 18:01, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
No, it wouldn't be deleted if it was factual or funny. As you have already noticed, a dim view is taken of people going around deleting stuff without good reason. Your IP address hasn't been blocked, it has been put in the vandal bin - whence it will be removed automatically in a few hours. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 17:39, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually I took him out right after you put him in. The vandal bin is for vandals, not for people with points of view we don't agree with. EddyP (talk) 17:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Really? I'm trying to listen to feedback, but it's hard when most of it is "it sucks, why are you breaking my wiki, uninstall it NAO". -- Nx / talk 20:04, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Well the previous summary of "bitch, bitch, bitch..." was not exactly what I call "fair". I guess I'm feeling a bit touchy. I've provided legitimate complaints about both Liquid Threads and Vector and my comments have all been rejected as whining. I comment that Vector makes things too small and the response is that I should buy some glasses. I've made several comments about LQT and, while I think you've done a lot to fix those concerns, I'm still not 100% sure that this method of threading can work for what RW needs.
As for you and Pi... I'm afraid that's how it seems sometimes. In the Vector discussion I was told in as many words that WPF had spent loads of money, weren't going to change their mind so I should just get used to it. In the LQT debate, I don't believe I've made a comment without describing exactly what I thought was wrong. I still find the threading a little confusing - although I imagine I would get used to that - then there's the size (which you're largely fixed) and the speed (I hope you can fix that). To see my comments listed as bitching pissed me off.
Yes, some people have made unhelpful comments, but you used too broad-a brush.
Obviously, you should feel free to change the summary, but something a little more neutral would be appreciated. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 20:16, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't the one who created the original summary. It might seem so because it was inside my comment (this is something that's going to change, since it's confusing), but it was created by Occasionaluse. About vector: like I said on the saloon bar thread, how was I supposed to know what your problem was until you told me? -- Nx / talk 20:21, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
I apologise. It's very confusing at the moment, and I thought it was you who posted it. On the second point, I mentioned the text size fairly early and just got back a barrage of "No it's not" comments, even after a posted links to the topic on WP where they're trying to fix this very issue. In any case, since it wasn't you who posted "bitch, bitch, bitch..." I apologise again and hope we can move on. I have changed the summary to something more appropriate, methinks, even if it does involve some wishful thinking. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 20:35, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, and getting to the summary's fossil record is also non-trivial, another item for my todo list, hurray. I've already fixed three bugs in liquidthreads, mostly trivial stuff that slipped through because they didn't test it properly. And it's not just lqt that suffers from this. The stuff they put out on wikipedia as supposedly stable code sometimes has glaringly obvious bugs and the developers don't understand why it's wrong, so I'm not surprised (not any more) about the vector font size bug. But I digress. The problem is that because the majority of feedback is "it's different, I don't like it, it sucks", we get used to that and legitimate complaints are dismissed as well. But I've learned from the past and I'm trying to handle this in a mature way. On the other hand, Neveruse is bored and wants a HCM, so just ignore him. -- Nx / talk 21:03, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
I know he is. But after hours of enforced niceness elsewhere, it's good to be able to call somebody a twat and not be banned. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 21:29, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Dinnae be a dick[edit]

That is all. EddyP (talk) 23:52, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Frankly, when it comes to responding to that idiot, the best method is to hit "revert". I'm bored with his trolling. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 23:59, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Quote[edit]

Thanks for the WIGO:CP:Talk quote. It's on my user page. – Nick Heer 20:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Wow, I'm flattered! If I'd known anybody was going to use it as a quote, I'd have added some "forsooth" and "verily"s. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 09:11, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

What name do you go by at WikiIndex?[edit]

Good day, Sir. You mentioned that I had left a message on your talkpage at WikiIndex. I was wondering if you go by Rpeh over there. ~ Lumenos (talk) 03:04, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, troll, I do. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 03:10, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm not a troll in the sense of baiting people merely to illicit drama. Perhaps I'm prone to assume bad faith and selfishly compelled to post half-baked ideas. But then often correct IMO and self-correcting. ~ Lumenos (talk) 03:53, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
