Hi there, I'm a journalist currently writing an article about trolling on the internet. I would appreciate some personal testimonials from users on this site both from their experience of trolling conservapedia and trolling on this website, and what they thought they achieved from such actions. My article is taking a look at the long term sociological impact of trolling on the internet, and if I get some juicy testimonials I may include Rationalwiki in the article. Thank you. Loya Jirga, pt 94 (sticky)

Although no term limits were ever set on Loya jirga elections, three months was the time that was mentioned most frequently by those who cared. Those three months are now up. Who wants to have another election? This might be a good time as one or two members have already left, and I will soon (moving house in a few weeks and my internet access doesn't come with me). So... new elections or keep calm and carry on? Totnesmartin (talk) 15:34, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

The who? But seriously, I've seen the LJ thing do sweet fuck all, even when I'd say it could have popped its head up and said "hi" so if you want to reopen nominations and vote for new members, I doubt I'd notice. Scarlet A.pngnarchist 16:03, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Three months was the least unpolular, but really it's had nothing to do. just the existence of it has kind of kept people onside. Totnesmartin (talk) 16:16, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Such is the power of the Lethargic Jerboa, people fear to cross it. EddyP (talk) 16:24, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I can't see any advantage in lengthy & distracting elections again at this point. How about if a Loya Jirga lasts until three months after its first actual involvement rather than just three months from being elected? WẽãšẽĩõĩďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 17:50, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

It's kind of fiddly. The Linguini Jerker is pretty much a "in case of emergency break glass" thing, and we haven't really had a serious HCM inducing event. I reckon three months is just way too short. May six months? We could say three months from the moment they do something big, but that seems to be just a clever way of getting around the original three month limit. Mind you, the clever may be a way to get this done without risking a people getting annoyed about their wiki being borked. --ConcernedresidentAsk me about our random string of characters 01:01, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Its the drilling that bothers me. "The offshore drilling is a disaster! To solve this, we'll drill somewhere else". Acei9 06:50, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
That part is incredibly intellectually dishonest. The conservative line on this one goes, "If it hadn't been for you damn environmentalists, we wouldn't have been drilling there." But even a moment's thought makes one think, "Really? So if ANWR had been open, they wouldn't be drilling in other known locations? There's a limit to how much profit they want to make?" Obviously, drilling is not a finite quantity. If ANWR was open, they'd be drilling there as well.--ADtalkModerator 07:12, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
I can faintly remember a time when politicians who wanted to sound off on the issues of the day published op-eds in reputable newspapers that needed to meet certain quality standards. Nowadays, a columnist for a gossip paper who's completely clueless about the situation becomes the source for a wannabe politician whose lack of knowledge about, well, anything has never stopped her from making grandstanding statements, and finally, a neocon propaganda rag publishes the latter's nonsensical facebook post verbatim. Yeah, that's how you conduct an intelligent debate about complicated issues. Röstigraben (talk) 07:16, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Whilst I was completely with her on the first paragraph of her flotilla screed - "Don't believe everything in the media" is a good mantra - she kind of lost me then. I am certainly NOT pro-Palestein (whatever that means), but I struggle to understand why the right in the US love Israel so much. As for the Drill Baby, Drill nonsense, the levels of stupidity and/or dishonesty are staggering. It's one thing from a backwater blogger like Rob, but from a prominent 'politician'? Has anyone heard a conservative say "we were all for offshore drilling, but now we understand why people were concerned"? How they continue to completely back-track on their DBD stances and blame environmentalists/liberals/atheistsjust you wait is even more dishonest than what we get from our own undistinguished politcos over here. DeltaStarSenior SysopSpeciationspeed! 13:33, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Pro-Palestinian means that you support the Palestinian State's right to exist. In exactly the same way that the peace negotiators are trying to get Hamas to sign-up to the idea that Israel has a right to exist, a pro-Palestine stance means that you believe that Israel should sign up to a binding declaration that Palestine as a state and sovereign country has a right to exist, with an equal footing to Israel, including having Jerusalem as a shared capital between the two countries. The actual odds of Israel ever formally adopting the idea that Palestine as a state has the right to exist and actually sticking to that declaration–none. The Israeli political establishment doesn't want Palestine to exist any more than Hamas wants Israel to exist, hence perpetual conflict in the Middle East.
"Don't believe everything in the media", yes, good start. Next line, "Like what I just said" or "Instead, believe my lies". ħumanUser talk:Human 02:06, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Time for another non-sequitur thread

I spilt beer on my alarm clock a few weeks ago and I'm afraid to plug it back in for fear of electrocuting myself and burning the house down. It's 1997 all over again... SJ Debaser 15:38, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

It should have dried out by now, surely. Scarlet A.pngnarchist 15:41, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
The main worry I would have is that the dried remnants of the beer could cause overheating or a short, but then that seems only likely if you poured a pretty serious amount in to the thing. Maybe plug it in out in the garden and let it run for a few hours? Failing that, sell it at a car boot sale and then check the local newspapers over the coming months to see if the coroner has confirmed any reports of death by alarm clock. --ConcernedResident omg ponies!!! 16:28, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
At which point we oversight that comment just in case the investigation leads back here... Scarlet A.pngnarchist 16:49, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Do Britain's atheistic building codes not require ground fault circuit interrupters? — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 16:51, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
New builds certainly do, and old ones are required to be upgraded. Trouble is lots and lots of the buildings in use here are old, particularly the sort of accomodation poor students live in, and buildings rented to poor students tend to have the sort of landlords who ignore minor details like the laws concerning health and safety. (Calling the Health and Safety Executive on your landlord when you've finally reached a state of total war and would quite like to break your lease is deeply emotionally satisfying.) - David Gerard (talk) 20:22, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
I imagine SJ is caught in a vicious cycle by this spillage... no alarm clock -> no job -> no GFCI outlets -> no alarm clock... — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 20:34, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
It will be fine by now marra - besides, an alarm clock will be a class II (double insulated) appliance, so there's no risk of electric shock. (As to GFCIs, or Residual Current Devices as we call them, since the 17th edition of the wiring regs BS7671 came in to force in 2008, pretty much everything needs to be RCD protected at 30mA, but the regs are not retrospective). DeltaStarSenior SysopSpeciationspeed! 22:54, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

There's a long thread on Consumerist about just this sort of thing. The best advice is dip it in some distilled water first (to rinse off anything that's dried onto the electronics) and then stick it in a container of uncooked rice for a few hours (to suck the moisture out). Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 21:45, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

And another non-sequitur

Don't you just hate it when you try to drink something (like tea) and because for some reason you're expecting - possibly just subconsciously - to taste something else, like lemonade, so it makes you think it tastes gawdawful and then you spit it out and everyone looks at you like you're insane... Scarlet A.pngnarchist 15:55, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Though in fairness, I think this tea is tasting a little funky so might need to check the date on the milk... Scarlet A.pngnarchist 15:56, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
I remember once my friends dad went into a convenience store and got us the "cherry coke" we wanted from the soda fountain. He didn't tell us until we'd finished that they were out of cherry and it was regular coke. Blew our fucking minds, man. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 15:58, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Don't check the date, just smell the milk. Those dates are nonsense. The nose doesn't lie.-- Kriss AkabusiAAAWOOOGAAAR!!1 16:01, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Akabusi is wise. The actual date varies quite a bit, depending on how long the milk has been open and the quality of the fridge. Only downside to the sniff method is that the dried milk around the cap may smell a bit sour even if the milk itself is fine. I love milk and I dedicate a lot of time to understanding and drinking it. --ConcernedResident omg ponies!!! 16:03, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Whenever I smell check milk, it always smells bad. I go by taste. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 16:04, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
If you go by smell pour it into a glass first. The crusty bits around the mouth of the carton can have a discernible odor the milk itself doesn't have. DickTurpis (talk) 16:07, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
You know what I hate? When you're pouring what you expect to be gin in your ear, but it turns out you got the bottles wrong an it's actually flat Sprite. Bad scene, man, bad scene. DickTurpis (talk) 16:05, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
That's why we're all here. We provide support in times of woe. I'm sorry to hear about the Sprite problem, but I know you're strong enough to get "back on the horse" and return to pouring top shelf booze in to your ear holes. Tried pouring advocaat in your ear? It's booze, but it's a bit like milk. Best of both worlds. --ConcernedResident omg ponies!!! 16:10, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
(EC) As a man whose gin comes in large, plastic bottles, I can relate to that. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 16:11, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Pretty easy to tell when the milk in your tea has turned. Just look and see if it's formed little particles on the surface when you pour it in, rather than just dispersing. If so, toss it out even if it does smell okay. --Kels (talk) 17:56, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

I recommend Cravendale or Tesco's Pure milk. It is superfiltered to remove most of the bacteria and lasts a lot longer than the regular stuff.  Lily Inspirate me. 07:24, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

I always said she was a tv personality--Thanatos (talk) 02:18, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Great Youtube debate cancelled

The debate between Donexodus and NephilimFree has been cancelled. With both sides accusing the other of deceit and cowardice, it is hard to know who is telling porkies. --DamoHi 03:51, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Is it really all that hard to tell? --Kels (talk) 04:37, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Although one of those caption things seems to hint that a few of them would be getting together to take questions. Which to me seems like an infinitely better idea than yet another "debate". Scarlet A.pngnarchist 08:21, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
From where I sit its just another case of a creationist making a challenge, dicking around until the other side throws up thier hands in frustration and then claiming victory by default. Nothing we haven't seen before and (sadly) wont see again. --Tygrehart

Only one person likes Andrew Schlafly

I'm finally getting around to starting a Facebook account. I start adding some of the guys from here and I think "Hmm, wouldn't it be funny if I got Andy to be my friend?" Anyway, I came across this. Only one person likes him.--Thanatos (talk) 23:51, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

That's not Andy's FB page, it's just some troll's Andy page. ħumanUser talk:Human 06:56, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

A few weeks ago, Facebook altered how profiles worked so that if someone had an "interest" in something, it'd now appear as a page. Nothing too bad, although it does produce some... odd results like the above - another one being "nothing", which nearly 90,000 people "like". There was a minor uproar about the change (as always) but in practice nothing has changed. If you search for something and your data/posts are publicly listed, your name will pop up on search results as before - except now we have a nice link to Wikipedia to say what it's all about. The Conservapedia page that was actually set up by someone, is likely parody. There are countless other groups, all with about 10 people joining. Not exactly setting the world of social networking alight. Scarlet A.pngnarchist 07:59, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh-Kay Kiddies!

SCIENCE! --Kels (talk) 05:07, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Boring, and where is the executive synopsis? I'm not busting on you, Kels, but I tire of SB posts that say "go here!" with not a single sentence explaining why. I see too many lame posts of this sort lately. TELL ME WHY I should click is all I ask. ħumanUser talk:Human 07:01, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Don't click then. Scarlet A.pngnarchist 07:53, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
I won't, since I see no reason to. All I ask is for the slightest reason to be interested to be typed on the site. ħumanUser talk:Human 07:56, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be funny if your old-fart style whinging encourages more people to post unexplained links. ONE / TALK 09:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Eating Competitions

Eating competitions are hideous events. Hey, come watch me. I am greedy fat pig and I want you to hoot and wail as I indulge in horrific gluttony. Acei9 06:13, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

I may be wrong, but I believe the Guinness book has banned them from record attempts. Don't tell Roger S 06:20, 7 June 2010 (UTC) SusanG Toast
I have sickening images of fat Celts in coke bottle glasses covered in meat and sauce waving around a trophy. Look at me, the filthy pig who has no problem with prostituting my integrity in the name of gross atavistic gorging. Acei9 06:28, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Did you know there's a Guinness world record for the number of times in 1 minute a woman can put on and take off a bra? Bondurant (talk) 06:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
But can she do that while stuffing a giant Meringue in her gaping maw? Acei9 06:35, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm writing an article for Newsweek

Hi there, I'm a journalist currently writing an article about trolling on the internet. I would appreciate some personal testimonials from users on this site both from their experience of trolling conservapedia and trolling on this website, and what they thought they achieved from such actions. My article is taking a look at the long term sociological impact of trolling on the internet, and if I get some juicy testimonials I may include Rationalwiki in the article. Thank you.
