I think you raised the issue of vandal binning IPs previously, and how it only affects innocents and leaves me entirely unscathed. Even a moments reflection and people would understand this. Unfortunately, he is so idiotic now that he won't even read such a kind of complaint. I would appreciate it. Instant commons

Thanks for having switched this on - it's great for making articles purty and useful without faffing about with download-upload - David Gerard (talk) 13:37, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Does this mean we can magically use the commons media? I will stalk you, Dave, until I understand this. ħumanUser talk:Human 13:41, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
This is precisely what it means. I did this just by linking its Commons filename. Hey presto, the image works! We can use anything that's on Wikimedia Commons the same way you can add Commons images to Wikipedia. There is a small risk that the image might get deleted (we don't control it), but if there's even the slightest risk of that it's easy to upload a local copy - David Gerard (talk) 13:50, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Very cool. Most WikiCommons images will be stable, I think, unless Jimbo goes on a freakout and deletes them. ħumanUser talk:Human 14:35, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
If we create Autofellatio, we'll just take care to upload the image locally - David Gerard (talk) 14:46, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Exactly. Thanks Nx, if twas you enabled this. ħumanUser talk:Human 14:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Very nice. Thanks. Treat yourself to a creme de menthe. ConcernedResident omg ponies!!! 15:12, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Very cool, good work. Although, a few dipshit questions if I may (these are all working on the assumption that a [[File:whatever.jpg]] markup which does not resolve to an image here will find it on commons, is that correct?):
  1. What happens if someone links to a file on RW, but the image is deleted on RW? Will the reference remain borken or will this hunt down the image with the same filename on commons?
  2. I did have a question number 2, but since writing (1) I have completely forgotten it. I shall return if I remember.
CrundyTalk nerdy to me 15:38, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
1. It will look locally (RW) first, then Commons, then fail. So yeah, it'll pull in a Commons file of that name, which may be completely unrelated. So if you delete an image, check what happened. - David Gerard (talk) 15:41, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, that could be a little dangerous. Might want to warn people about deleting images. Esp if the image is being used on an important article, gets deleted, and is then replaced with something completely inappropriate. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 15:47, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Probably something worth adding to the help content. Also, I'll add some advice on naming files; given that these problems are less likely if the name chosen makes sense. i.e. a picture of Daniel Dennett would be odd if named midgetporn.jpg. ConcernedResident Fightin' round the world 17:06, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
I've changed the help page at Help:images. You think that would cover it? --ConcernedResident Fightin' round the world 22:45, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

While I think this is a great time-saver, doesn't it rather put us at the mercy of edits/changes at the Commons? After all, surely an image there can be changed? I know it sucks to save an image in order to upload it here, but at least if we do that we have control over our content. ħumanUser talk:Human 02:43, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

hey can i like have rollback or something? being beaten to the troll pwnage by you and human is pissing me off. Cheerleader Not Troll (talk) 23:06, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Make some constructive edits to the site and you'll get them. -- Nx / talk 23:08, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
bush sucks now can i have rollback? i don't need a whole mop just rollback. Cheerleader Not Troll (talk) 23:12, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
1. You're banging on the wrong door, I can't give you rollback. 2. Rollback is given to autoconfirmed accounts, which means making edits. And I'd prefer if those edits were not trolling. -- Nx / talk 23:13, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
It's a troll! There it is. I finally seen one. Lumenos (talk) 23:22, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
You never looked in a mirror before? -- Nx / talk 23:25, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Srsly. Get on that 64.120.47.6 (talk) 23:30, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure a "troll" has one simple definition. Here's one, "someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."[1] Maybe I crack a little joker, here and there, but I don't intend negative emotional response. And never only for emotion, always for reason (though I am perhaps more prone to mistakes than those who take less risk). Lumenos (talk) 00:36, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

mc

i should really pm this 2 you but since i'm too lazy to add email... if you really hate marcus and want him to go away then you should celebrate him. and make it sound real and not like what i was doing because my love comments were ironic trolling towards mc. even if he does read this and knows what your up to it will either annoy the fuck out of him or make him feel bad for trolling. i can say i felt bad for trolling goonie when i saw him kind of stick up for me in a thread. Cheerleader Not Troll (talk) 00:09, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Sounds fairly ridiculous. What's to celebrate? Acei9 00:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
not like a holiday celebration i mean act like you like mc act like mc isn't all that bad butter him up. this will either make him feel bad or annoy him so much he will leave. Cheerleader Not Troll (talk) 00:15, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
riiight. Acei9 00:16, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Strange, I just ignore MC, siknce he hasn't said anything original in, what, six months? Sorry for the orange boxes, Nx. ħumanUser talk:Human 01:46, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Even 1000 MC's typing for 1000 years couldn't come up with anything more than "you fascist cunts". Acei9 01:54, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
6 months, Human? Try more like a year or more. It's sad and entertaining at the same time, IMO. Especially when I asked him to prove his accusations at RWW, and he refused. What a moron. Lord Goonie Hooray! I'm helping! 02:33, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Goonie, that is a lie and you know it. You delete any comments you don't like and you know I'm not good with wiki code, I'm not good at finding diff links. You deceitful scumbag. 86.40.207.37 (talk) 10:03, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
