Proposal to ban Communist symbols[edit]

In January 2005, he and József Szájer called for the European Union's proposed ban on Nazi symbols to be extended to also cover communist emblems, specifically the Hammer and Sickle, and the Red Star;[1] The European Commission rejected this in early February 2005, as EU justice commissioner Franco Frattini said including Soviet insignia in an Europe-wide law on racism would be inappropriate.[2]
