Within RationalWiki culture, beyond accusations of liberal or atheist bias (as if said bias undermines our points), there has long existed a trope used by its detractors: That, despite its name, RationalWiki is not, indeed, Rational; oftentimes being said without further explanation or justification beyond 'It disagrees with me'.

This assertion, which has likely existed since the very beginning of this wiki (I wouldn't know, I wasn't there), is used so often, in fact, that a template used in response to it was created, and, eventually, a drinking game associated with the aforementioned template.

Alongside the expected drinks asked of the reader regarding the assertion discussed above (and the assertion's cousins), there is a rule where, if it was to be followed, would quickly result in you quickly ending up 6 feet under: 'Take a drink for every upvote in our entry in the Urban Dictionary.'

Though the rule does not specify which entry it is referring to, it doesn't take a genius to realize it refers to the entry by AcidSpittingLlama, which as of the time of writing this, which currently has 1950 upvotes; However, while I was looking at the Urban Dictionary entries for RationalWiki, a thought crossed my mind: What if I expanded the reach of this rule? How ridiculous could things get?

You are currently reading my attempt to answer this question.

But first, a few things to note[edit]

For the purposes of this essay, I will be assuming that:

  • A drink consists of 354.882 milliliters (12 ounces) of beer.[1]
  • A shot consists of 44.36 milliliters (1.5 ounces) of 50% alcohol vodka.[2]

As the fact that I bothered to clarify what I will be using as a measure of 'A shot' within this essay may have tipped you off to, I will not only be measuring how much alcohol you would consume based on the Urban Dictionary rule, but I will also be applying the other rules to the entries as well.

I will also be accounting for how my calculations will be impacted if you choose to add the aextra rule that every downvote given to each entry removes 1 drink from the tally; At the end, I will measure how much beer, vodka, liquid, and alcohol you would have to drink in total, and how many times this would kill you on average.
