RationalWiki's 2019 Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff – we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

If everyone seeing this today donates $5, we will meet our goal for 2019.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

All in good time, my good person. EVDebs (talk) 05:38, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, don't get me started on GIMP, it's like one big open source advert for how it's totally worth the money for Photoshop. But generally it's a decent observation; if you're going to get nerds gathering in one place, you're going to get people slagging off each others ideas, demanding that they're right, but with no ability to figure out who's idea is the best. Add to this the fact that normally everyone wants to be the boss and no one wants to be the workhorse and your clashing egos just mean everyone loses sight of the fact they're making stuff that's going to be used by, shock horror users. Besides, everyone knows the only thing you need is a command line! Scarlet A.pngpathetic 10:14, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

I don't know, I don't find GIMP to be bad per se. It's just that it's complex and not really meant for quick filtering and retouching. EVDebs (talk) 17:41, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Then again, nobody uses Photoshop for that either - they use Instagram. From what I've seen, Photoshop has become what budding artists pirate before moving on to Paint Tool SAI and using Photoshop only to shrink/crop finished work for thumbnails and so on. If you want user-unfriendly FOSS image-editing software, you want Imagemagick - not only is it hostile to non-technical users but by virtue of being old money in the FOSS world and closely bound to the commandline tools it resists attempts to improve the interface. 94.13.36.250 (talk) 15:50, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Imagemagick is perfect if you are batch processing stuff in contorted ways -- everything in shell scripts FTW. Especially since you can find solutions to 80+% of your problems on StackExchange these days. ThiehWhat is NOT going on? 20:54, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
