The levels adjustment previously performed by WikiPendant was actually stored as an Embedded Color Profile, rather than as actual modifications to pixel values. I used GIMP to actually apply those changes to the pixel values themselves, then re-optimized. THIS version is now visually identical to WikiPendant's version.
