RationalWiki's 2019 Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff – we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

If everyone seeing this today donates $5, we will meet our goal for 2019.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

I don't know, being me an atheist and all, but i have never been as "religious" or religious wanna be as when I was drinking payote. All or most really good religious writings come from hallucinogenic or out of body type (ie., starvation, epilepsies, exhaustion) experiences. why? I think we are hard wired to see the world in a particular way when under serious stress. --Sun mowse.pngEn attendant Godot"«Let the credulous and the vulgar continue to believe that all mental woes can be cured by a daily application of old Greek myths to their private parts. It's odd that mystical experiences can be caused by various substances, but that the major religions don't want their followers to take them. This is worth a discussion, possibly involving Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception. Totnesmartin 17:47, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
From a professional point of view, i would say that is because almost all "mystical" experiences are personal and have some kind of message like "you can find god directly" "god is within" "all barriers are broken down", etc. formal religions don't like those messages. Jesus, if you read him carefully, was likely quiet teh mystic. notice he didn't really ever say "go to teh priests, oh you men".  :D--Sun mowse.pngEn attendant Godot"«Let the credulous and the vulgar continue to believe that all mental woes can be cured by a daily application of old Greek myths to their private parts.
