Fun talk:List of Joe Biden gaffes
On Gaffes in general[edit]
Gaffes are traditionally thought of as social blunders and not just trivial mistakes, like using the wrong number in a statistic or naming the wrong person in a statement of fact. Making a statement that suggests a mental lapse is not usually classed as a gaffe. If we allow for gaffes to be simply notable mistakes, then Trump, not Biden would be the gaffe leader by far, as Trump rarely expresses a thought without also making a gaffe of this kind. By comparison Biden would appear to be relatively gaffe free.Ariel31459 (talk) 21:36, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- To be fair, they both have their fair share of cringe, meme-able moments. Same goes for Dubya, who was also often mocked for the many times he embarrassed himself in front of foreigners. When I saw this video compilation of them:
- I couldn't help but think: Can a president be impeached for such cringy moments? --Goatspeed. See what I'm up toCircularRasoningSee what I'm planning 21:41, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Ariel, Trump being worse does not stop Biden from being bad.-Flandres (talk) 21:45, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Flandres: Acknowledged! I wouldn't want to suggest otherwise. Trump has made an average of 50 false statements a day according to the Wash. Post.. By comparison, Biden looks almost ordinary. I guess it's the shock of the comparison. Ariel31459 (talk) 21:57, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Well, bringing up bad things about Biden is more relevant-he will soon be president so any flaws he has are about to be very important. Deflecting criticisms by bringing up Trump will soon be much more difficult, hmhmhmhmhm...-Flandres (talk) 22:02, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Should we add something about his stutter? I think it might be important to note. Twodots (talk) 22:10, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- OK. CR makes a good point. Further than that, W. was the greatest mangler of the English language ever to enter the White House. It wasn't his funny sentences that were at fault for his policies. It's not that I want to excuse Biden, though he does have a speech disability, it's just that Trump is so damned bad. I am not editing the fun page because, well it's all in fun (unless I think of a good gaffe).Ariel31459 (talk) 22:22, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

University quote[edit]
There is a precursor to the remark: Harold Wilson referring to Alec Douglas-Home (pronounced Hume) as a fourteenth earl, the response being that he was the fourteenth Mr Wilson. Anna Livia (talk) 16:38, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
