Versailles? You have a problem with Versailles? As the token francophone here, let's talk about "tough," "cough," "plough" and "dough." Versailles, indeed. PFoster 11:05, 2 January 2008 (EST)

You forgot "through" and probably "thought". Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 12:06, 2 January 2008 (EST)
Not really. You're right about other languages having their respective pronunciation problems. I mostly wrote it because I am from the Pittsburgh area. The curious thing about Versailles is that someone seems to have kept spelling the word for four extra letters before someone told them to stop. :) --Edgerunner76 11:13, 2 January 2008 (EST)
The guy in Verdun (ver-dun) knew when to stop. :) --Edgerunner76 11:16, 2 January 2008 (EST)

Not to mention: Leicester, Gloucester, Worcester, Bicester, Towcester (but, curiously, not Cirencester). Also Edinburgh, and my personal favourite, the Right Hon. mr. Featherstonehaugh*. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 11:25, 2 January 2008 (EST) *Fanshaw

AK, one normally drops the "Mr." when using "Right Hon." as the latter is more prestigious. (BTW, one of my pet hates is people who insist on calling themselves Mister So-and-so.) Jollyfish.gifGenghis Marauding 12:11, 2 January 2008 (EST)
Oh yes, forgot about that. Not that I know if there's ever been an actual Right Hon. Featherstonehaugh, mind you. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 13:36, 2 January 2008 (EST)
