Queer Nation is a gay rights direct action group formed in 1990 by activists from ACT UP, who wanted to take ACT UP's direct action protest style beyond fighting AIDS into more broadly opposing homophobia. Queer Nation is generally credited with initiating the reclamation of the word queer, formerly a homophobic term of contempt, as a GLBT self-identifier.

After a brief heyday in the early 1990s, Queer Nation was all but moribund until recently. The group has been revived, and most recently (as of 2013) has been involved in protests against anti-gay laws in Russia, targeting corporate sponsors of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
