Talk:Goldilocks Zone

"Earth has perfect temperatures for maintaining water in liquid form and an atmosphere rich in nitrogen and oxygen, both necessary for carbon-based life..." This assertion is too strong. It's not even completely true for all life on Earth. http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2010/04/scienceshot-animals-that-live-wi.html Weorthe (talk) 01:41, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Finely tuned[edit]

Relevant, would love to use it somehow. --Seth Peck (talk) 17:20, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

The function of the 'Goldilocks Zone'[edit]

... is to aid 'the proverbial space travellers' in selecting those planets within a solar system which are most likely to have life or be so capable (if they wish to settle).

There are likely to be different (shapes of) zones for different types of solar system (star size and energy output, location of gas giants etc) - and 'life whether or not as we know it Jim' is likely to occur on more planets/moons than space travellers' initial expectations (even if much of it falls into the 'xenomicrobiologists areas of research'). 171.33.222.26 (talk) 16:45, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Cut from the "references" section:[edit]

"Advanced life can survive in wierd conditions, what about primitive life that is just evolving? Would primitive life be killed during unfavourable times in a planet's orbit before defenses could evolve? Life could evolve near a source of geothermal energy on a planet that periodically moves into the area that is theoretically too cold for life and could later evolve defenses against harsh conditions away from the geothermal source. If a planet periodically dips into the area that is theoretically too hot for life primitive life could evolve in caves sheltered from short bursts of heat. Again life could later evolve defenses against heat and move out of the caves."

The above is not a reference, but a speculation. Furthermore, what is "advanced" and "primitive" life? Weorthe (talk) 11:16, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

'Primitive life' - kills you by giving you unpleasant diseases/poisons you. Advanced life - takes bites out of you/the plant equivalent. 82.44.143.26 (talk) 18:29, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
