We really need to sort out how to merge this with Genesis and Creation Week. --Bobbing up 15:04, 12 November 2007 (EST)

Good point. See my comment that everyone is ignoring at Talk:Guide to the Bible about naming conventions for these articles. humanUser talk:Human 15:23, 12 November 2007 (EST
I think the guides are supposed to be light but formal "guides" to what's in the books and where. The "standalone" articles should be more commentary, snark, rebuttal, and typical RW-type content? humanUser talk:Human 16:51, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

Irony in Guide to Genesis[edit]

You know, once you accept that the bible is a human creation, the contradictions become clear. Genesis as we know it, as well as much of the rest of the Tanach, is a combination of two slightly different versions, which were combined (rather messily, I might add) into a single manuscript. Scholars refer to the author(s) responsible for this as "the Great Redactor". This accounts for Heaven being mentioned twice, on day one and day three, and why woman appears to be made twice—simultaneous with man, then again contradictorily from a part of Adam—just to randomly name two examples. --My cat is smarter than Andrew Schafly RA harass stalk 01:42, 14 December 2007 (EST)

Needed Chapter headings; multiple author thesis[edit]

1. Can someone who cares add chapter(s) headings to the various sections/stories in this guide?

2. Shouldn't there be some mention made in the beginning (har har) about the whole "3 author" (I think it was 3. might be 4?) hypothesis scholars of the originals have developed? ("Y", "J", and the other person?) AK, perhaps? You probably know this off the top of your head... humanUser talk:Human 15:44, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

As a matter of fact, I anticipated your question and wrote that article almost seven months ago. Now that's foresight for ya! --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 16:18, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
Haha, I saw the headers getting added, I guess I wasn't entirely clear, I meant kinda like this:

Noah's speedboat

(Chapters 32-42)

You know, the chapters in the book that contain the story in question. Oh, and where is that article you writ? humanUser talk:Human 16:49, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
At documentary hypothesis; I added a small note on "authorship" here, --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 19:45, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
Thanks! Did you insert similar notes at the other quattro/cinques of the pentateuch? humanUser talk:Human 20:09, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

Jewish v. Christian section[edit]

I added this because it's an important concept when talking to religious people - especially CP types. My problem is I'm not sure if this is appropriate or the best place for this comment. Way too many Christians do not know that the Jewish scriptures are *not* identical to the Hebrew scriptures. --WaitingforGodot 17:48, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Seems appropriate enough to include it here, although I guess it's a point common to all the Jewish scriptures. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 18:10, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

A modest proposal[edit]

For ordering the two articles on Genesis. This article seems to be a summary of the stories and content in Genesis; the Genesis article seems to be more about the creation of the book itself, it's role in Jewish and Christian Faith, etc. My proposal for these two, at least, is to re-title this article something like "Contents of Genesis" or "summary of Genesis" (and i see where the "guide" concept was going, I just think it wasn't the best term) and move the 2 or 3 pieces of commentary to the [Genesis] page. --WaitingforGodot 18:23, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Why not just leave it as it is? What would be good is a sweet template header that explains which POV these versions take, with auto-magic links to each other. ħumanUser talk:Human 21:18, 16 July 2008 (EDT)
Ah, Human is a smart human! be you one of them there homo-sapians?--WaitingforGodot 22:18, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Tower of Babel[edit]

Where in the Bible said that it is after such and such number of generations? I am suggesting it to be removed (the phrase "Seventy generations later,"). [[User:K61824|]][[User_talk:K61824|]] 15:52, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Looks like G 10:10 to 11:9 or so to me, if our copy is anything to go by. I was too lazy to count, but most of the verses between the first two occurrences of "babel" seem to be genealogical entries. Perhaps the count of 70 goes all the way back to Adam and Steve? ħumanUser talk:Human 00:44, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

B'reshit[edit]

How exactly is the hebrew pronounced? Is the syllable "B're" anything at all like "bull"?WazzaHello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me... 07:37, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

article requiring explanation[edit]

This is in Category:Articles needing explanation, but I don't see where that is in the article, nor is there a request on the talk page. What's going on? Totnesmartin (talk) 21:41, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

I made it a hidden category. You can enable display of hidden categories in your preferences (in Misc). Basically, maintenance categories like that should be hidden, leaving only content-related categories (i.e. those relevant to the average reader who doesn't care about writing a !encyclopedia) visible. To put it another way: if you are reading an article, you may be interested in other articles about the same topic. You most likely won't be interested in other articles that have the same issues. If you want to see those, you'll probably start from the todo list or something similar. -- Nx / talk 21:59, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah. Hidden categories. That explains a lot, actually. Scarlet A.pngbomination 22:01, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Sorted. Innit. Totnesmartin (talk) 22:09, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

genesis and guide to geneis - same article[edit]

I'm not sure when RW decided to do this "guide to" on each book, but really it just has created duplicate articles. I'm going to make sure nothing here is said, that isn't in "genesis" propper, and see what we can do to archive this one. Pink mowse.pngEn attendant Godot 23:52, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
