Talk:Kent Hovind's doctoral dissertation/OCR
What should we do with this? It's not exactly an article. Seme Blue 19:35, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- Nx was talking about a "sources" namespace not too long ago, mentioning this. I don't recall it going anywhere. Project space perhaps? Тytalk 19:37, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Fair USE[edit]
We've been talking sopa all day, which aught to keep us aware of Fair Use. This is not fair use. we are most likly violating the copy right on this... do we care?
GodotDear god, fucking grow up 22:53, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- Just to further explain my point. Fair use is the "right' (well, not really) to copy PARTS of a document. Even if you are going to comment on those documents, it is dubious if you have a right to publish the entire thing - with our without comments. And this has no comments about it. It is just the copywritten material, open for all the world to see. There is nothing justifying our using it. It really needs to be removed until or unless we at least do a "side - by - side" which may or m ay not be fair use, but is at least *better* use. --

- I agree 100%, but as an aside, we have much bigger copyvios to worry about than Kent Hovind's dissertation. Uke Blue 00:01, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- That doesn't absolve us of the responsibility of deleting this if it's easy to do so. That Harry Potter right vs. what is easy quote comes to mind. steriletalk 00:40, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- We also have a pdf, if you're going to delete it. PeterQuasniki 2012! 00:42, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- (EC)Indeed, and I agree that this isn't fair use. I was merely pointing out that it is easy to delete one page, but we have quite a project ahead of us if we want to aggressively pursue our assorted copyright violations. Uke Blue 00:44, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- How about this: Give people a week to copy/download the pdf, and then delete it. Make it available as a google doc if someone wants to share it. Best of all worlds. steriletalk 00:50, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Good plan. The best of all possible worlds, definitely. Seme Blue 00:54, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Just deleting it works too! steriletalk
- This should be a no-brainer, no-debate issue: it's a copyvio, it's not fair use, it's not ours, delete it. Not a topic for debate, discussion or work around. P-Foster Talk "a cheetos-eating, Mountain-Dew drinking vlogger living in someone's basement." 01:01, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Considering that it's still on the servers - I downloaded it after you deleted it - is that still a copyvio? You need to be a sysop to see it, but it's there. PeterQuasniki 2012! 01:37, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

As an aside...[edit]
...before I nuke this blatant copyvio, I just want to point out that I am writing the proposal for my own dissertation. Said proposal, not the diss itself, will probably end up being a few pages longer than this 32-page "doctoral dissertation." P-Foster Talk "a cheetos-eating, Mountain-Dew drinking vlogger living in someone's basement." 00:52, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Mine was well over 100 (and maybe 200, I don't remember). steriletalk 00:54, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- You all are in the wrong majors! My dissertation was about 300 pages, but my proposal and justification hearing were a breeze... maybe 10 pages plus potential biblio. Hovnid's shit is just that. I wouldn't even have given it a decent grade in my 300 level classes.
