RationalWiki's 2019 Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff – we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

If everyone who saw this today donated $5, we would meet our goal for 2019.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

Talk:Red shift

From RationalWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

The article might better be called "Doppler Effect", which accounts for red shift and blue shift of electromagnetic radiation. Rational Edthink! 12:07, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

As it's in the context of showing the expansion of the universe, I think blue shift is fairly irrelevant. Red shift is the commonest usage in this context. Doppler effect includes any form of wave radiation including sound - this would dilute the intent. Rather have another article Doppler shift & cross refer? The above is a good argument for covering red shift separately, due to its relevance to cosmology, but not on a separate article. Scarlet A.pngmoral 10:35, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
