halp[edit]

How does I make it so when I put in a number in the field, it becomes x2, x3, you know? As in (edit conflict) x2--User:Brxbrx/sig 01:55, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Google parser functions mediawiki. Pimobile (talk) 02:18, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Is there any point to this?[edit]

Going (EC) requires less typing and making it bright red draws to much attention to the fact you got edit conflicted. It seems a little sulky. I have never understood the convention of mentioning your edit conflict unless what you are saying needs to be clearly linked to a previous comment. Pimobile (talk) 02:11, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I, for one, am probably never going to use it. It is pretty useless.Tytalk 02:13, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
I am going to use it. Is that all right? Putting it in my user space would defeat the purpose of making such a compact template. BTW, thx Pi, I'll look that up--User:Brxbrx/sig 03:16, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Give it ago and see it it takes off, you can never judge these things in advance. Pimobile (talk) 03:18, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Inserting useless templates into talk pages just slows the talk page down for everyone. See also: template signatures. -- Nx / talk 06:36, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
So everybody is slowing the wiki down? Is the server that low on RAM and processing capability that it struggles to transclude pages to each other that we, like slave drivers, carelessly demand of it?--User:Brxbrx/sig 13:47, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
The mediawiki parser is a horribly slow beast. The new server we're on is quite powerful and the problem isn't so bad now, but back when we were hosted on Trent's server, the saloon bar took about 4-5 seconds to parse, and more than 2 seconds of that were just the fancy randomized template signatures. Right now it's about half that. -- Nx / talk 17:21, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
I've weened myself off the templates now, so that probably halved the amount of randomisation it had to do each time the page loaded! ADK...I'll speak your Gamecube! 00:54, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

I liked it better red.[edit]

Who changed it and why? Was it you, Nx? I ask because I can barely recognize it from when I slapped down the red template and can't tell who made what changes from the history. Also, why?--User:Brxbrx/sig 23:13, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

It's an annoying and silly template, but I'm grateful to whoever made this change and made it marginally less annoying.--ADtalkModerator 23:21, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
This template seems pretty superfluous. People normally write "ec" and continue typing. Now they can type four extra characters and the whole word is spelt properly for them. Weird. Aceace 23:25, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
It used to be red to draw extra special attention to the fact that poor Bricks had to endure an edit conflict. I changed it because it was stupid and annoying -- Nx / talk 11:28, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
