Social construction of gender (or part of gender) - ie, why girls like pink

"It's not social construction!!!!" "It's the way we are made. Genetics!!!" SO THERE!!!!!

I want to give my kid a real chemistry set, like they had in the 40' and 50s before the era of "safe" toys. Let them blow up whatever they can. boys and girls!!! :-)

I had two "toys" i loved. my barbies (don't know why so don't ask) and my dissection kit. I got that at like 8, and it was very dull, but it had pins and hooks along with the "scalpel" -- i cut up dead frogs, insects, stuffed animals. ;-)

Excellent! my brother had one of the last "good" chemistry sets, though even by the early 70's they were not nearly as fun as 50s sets. He had erector sets, too. (don't know if that's the brand name or the type, but metal peices you built into "stuff".) I loved taking everything he made apart. I was evil that way.

Chemistry set? Bah! If my (hypothetical) child can't inject a sample into a GC-MS by the time they're 8, they have failed me.

O___O...Sounds oddly like my mother.

..............My barbies were most definitely part of my dissection kit. Actually, I think my barbie dolls are what fueled my pyromaniac tendencies when I was little.

LOL. excellent!

my barbies did not get disected. I just dressed them, undressed them. dressed them. WHY???? I've never liked fashion or clothes.

but they did get beheaded by an evil tormenter of a brother.

Hahahaha. My brother would join in. I think once we got a lot of barbie head, lit their hairs on fire, and watched it turn into a weird...hair..plastic ball thing. Ahh...Childhood.

At least they were just Barbies. Remember all the a-holes who would burn ants with magnifying glasses?

Why that also describes my brother. He pulled teh leggs of spiders, one at a time, too. all in the name of science, accourding to "studies" in the 80s about why boys were so destructive but also "better" at science. They pulled the legs off bugs not cause they were evil, but they wanted to learn how the world worked.

I stopped other kids killing ants so I could study them—touching the experiment ruins it.

___; I wasn't any better. I poured gasoline once on an ant pile...and lit it on fire. It was like popcorn. Exploding ants and larvae everywhere.
