RationalWiki's 2019 Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff – we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

If everyone who saw this today donated $5, we would meet our goal for 2019.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

I personally think common sense is often a bit rubbish. Christopher (talk) 07:34, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
There are a few scientific theories that go against common sense, even though they are supported by logic and evidence. They just look odd. BicyclewheelToxic mowse.gif 12:40, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
Common sense is good for things we evolved around like fire but breaks down when you apply it to anything we didn't evolve needing to be correct about. Christopher (talk) 12:42, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
God that makes me sound like I endorse evolutionary psychology. (I don't). Christopher (talk) 14:24, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
...What? Facepalm.png
First of all, what you said about common sense is perfectly correct. I was just about to {{goodpost}} it!
Secondly, I think you may be confusing "shit manosphere/PUA/woo pseudo-EP" with the actual science — but don't worry, you wouldn't be the first to make that mistake (me included). Reverend Black Percy (talk) 14:30, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
I hadn't really realised there was an actual scientific field as opposed to "women were less likely to need to to run away from predators therefore they're less intelligent". I suspect evolutionary psychologists find it as insulting as confusing astrology and astronomy. Christopher (talk) 14:54, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
