Sysopship[edit]

Unfortunately, in light of your recent edits, I have been forced to make you a sysop. An informatory pamphlet can be found here. Bastard cubic Hoover! 11:23, 9 February 2009 (EST)

bad luck mate. Welcome to the legion on the damned. Totnesmartin 11:25, 9 February 2009 (EST)
I didn't know you could fit a legion on a damn. Bastard cubic Hoover! 11:29, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Oh sod. Of. Happy now, mister clever trousers? Totnesmartin 11:32, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Pants. Not Trousers. narrow minded yank... ĴαʊΆʃÇä₰ sysop and 'crat! (does it matter?)

You appeart to be on a one person delete/don't delete campaign. Talk first please. ToastToastand marmite 14:37, 9 February 2009 (EST)
You can be called "Elizabeth". No, with sandwiches 14:40, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Warning[edit]

Deletion of articles, templates or removal of templates without due cause is NOT valid action for a sysop. ToastToastand marmite 14:46, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Can I be "Mei", please? Pseudonyms are boring. (And I can't rename myself, apparently)— Unsigned, by: Mei / talk / contribs

Done. On talk pages, please sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png on the toolbar above the edit panel. You can also indent successive talk page comments using one more colon (:) for each line. Thank you. ToastToastand marmite 15:42, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Paradox[edit]

You protected the talk page. Why? --"CURtalk 16:00, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Because I'm a sociopath. Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier, shouldn't I?— Unsigned, by: Mei / talk / contribs
Is there a best time to mention that one is a sociopath? KlapauciusEsteemed Constructor 16:07, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Without passing judgement, do we need sociopathic sysops? ToastToastand marmite 16:10, 9 February 2009 (EST)
I've always wanted to say this: RationalWiki is becoming more like CP every day! KlapauciusEsteemed Constructor 16:13, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Sometime's I almost think its true. I'm trying to reverse the flow. We don't want to become the left-wing equivalent of CP. --"CURtalk 16:14, 9 February 2009 (EST)--"CURtalk 16:14, 9 February 2009 (EST)

It's not an uncommon sentiment. Bastard cubic Hoover! 16:25, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Grow up, dear.
So demote me. I never asked to be a sysop, did I? And just because I'm a sociopath doesn't mean I don't have feelings.
Oh, wait, shoot, yes it does. — Unsigned, by: Mei / talk / contribs
Why would we demote a sociopath to bureaucrat? Bastard cubic Hoover! 16:24, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Now I'm lost. Mei 16:27, 9 February 2009 (EST)
We refer to promotion as "demotion" and vice versa. Bastard cubic Hoover! 16:28, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Why not? --"CURtalk 16:33, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Irony. Bastard cubic Hoover! 16:32, 9 February 2009 (EST)
But there's a serious element to it as well: it enforces the fact that being a sysop does not make us superior to other users. KlapauciusEsteemed Constructor 16:35, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Oh delusion, how sweet you are. Come, let us embrace. Mei 16:37, 9 February 2009 (EST)
I've never understood that, as generally being a sysop means you have contributed enough to prove that you aren't a vandal. Bastard cubic Hoover! 16:38, 9 February 2009 (EST)

(unindent) True, although that also diminishes the "promotion" aspect of sysopship, as almost everyone on this site is one. The use of "demotion" thus also serves to remind us that being a sysop is no big deal, unlike, say, Wikipedia. In regards to my above comment, I was thinking more along the lines of avoiding "my opinion is worth more because I'm a sysop"-type incidents with newbie/anon editors. KlapauciusEsteemed Constructor 16:50, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Please stop it[edit]

While in the middle of editing today, I have been vandal-binned twice (the second time immediately after I paroled myself) and blocked once twice by you. (The only explanation given was "Quit it" and "Unfunny vandalism".) The first time I let it pass as a harmless joke, but three four consecutive times is going too far.

Now would you please stop it? I'm trying to edit here, and I do not appreciate being hindered for no apparent reason. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 19:14, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Just sayin'...[edit]

Hey Mei, I noticed that you blocked RA for 3141 seconds. In general, a 314 second block is taken as a fun one, but the 3141 second block is reserved for cases of wandalism, and we generally try to steer away from using that option (and the ones under it) unless we need to. This is probabally a mistake born out of not knowing, but I am just pointing it out to you. ĴαʊΆʃÇä₰ sysop and 'crat! (does it matter?)

Promotion[edit]

It looks to me, from the above series of comments, that this user really wasn't ready to handle the extra buttons. P. Hoover, how would you feel about reversing your earlier action? Any other opinions? Was "Mei" just "testing" them, or were they abusing them? Thanks, ħumanUser talk:Human 19:49, 9 February 2009 (EST)
