The Atheist Delusion[edit]

Ray Comfort released a new film with the title, 'The Atheist Delusion'. Hemant Mehta thinks it's a rehash of typical Ray Comfort work, see A Review of Ray Comfort’s The Atheist Delusion (Yep, I Watched the Whole Thing). Proxima Centauri (talk) 08:33, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Mehta doing something useful for once... Thanks for the link! This should be integrated into the article on Comfort. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 10:02, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
I find Mehta is generally useful. He helped me a great deal with Ark Encounter for example. Proxima Centauri (talk) 13:05, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
There's some problems with him, actually. Made me sad to find out, but it's true. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 11:49, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
I'm monitoring Mehta regularly. If I find him promoting these types I'll add that to the article on him. The online atheist community is so large nobody can know all of it. If Mehta occasionally wrote favourable stuff about cranks he may not have known all about them. Also with factionalism in the atheist community some people have to choose what they feel is the lesser evil.
Not everybody who promotes PZ Myers agrees with all the criticism of other prominent atheists Myers used to spout. I support Myers' feminism in spite of having reservations about other stuff. Mehta has been on the receiving end of criticism by Myers and Pharangulites and, well Mehta's a man and may see some things differently. Myers stopped spouting criticism of other atheists over the last few months so I took critical stuff out of Atheism Wiki and started promoting Myers again. Promoting Myers now doesn't make me a supporter of everything he used to do. Perhaps Mehta agrees with a great deal of what those he promotes do but not all. PZ Myers wrote Ray Comfort can’t even keep the question straight. Proxima Centauri (talk) 17:15, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Mehta wrote more about "The Atheist Delusion", see Christian Evangelist Describes His “Militant Atheist” Past (Spoiler: It Involved Reading Books). Proxima Centauri (talk) 15:00, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Evolution of lungs[edit]

The lung did not evolve from gills!

Lungfishes have both lungs and gills. The lung appears to have evolved as an outpouching from the gut, presumably in a fish that swallowed air as a means of accessory respiration. The modern armored catfishes (such as Corydoras species) still do this. (You may have seen an aquarium catfish pop a bubble of air from its anus. That's how they exhale.)

To quote Wikipedia: "... the lungs of vertebrates are homologous to the gas bladders of fish (but not to their gills)."

So this article gets some biology really, really wrong.

Also, the Solve media capcha is horribly broken at least for me. Nothing displays for the visual ones and the auditory ones are nearly unintelligible. I'm logged in, why is it still demanding that I complete a broken capcha? Vivisectionist (talk) 03:29, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for pointing that out — would you mind correcting the article on that point? Th hug.gif Also, I've demoted you to autopatrolled, letting you bypass captcha. Please use this immense power to set the record straight. All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 11:47, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
OK, my attempt at a fix is in place.Vivisectionist (talk) 16:12, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

He's not so bad[edit]

At least he does not look (the article gives that impression) as any of those YECs who think the Big Bang theory and a 4.6 Gyr-old Earth are BS -I had to face once one of those-. Could be much worse.

At the very least, so much stupidity is oozing of him and similar people that they're obtaining the opposite of what he wants. I feel pity from those who are scammed by them, looking for that help they need so desperately. --Panzerfaust (talk) 13:15, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

What? Christopher (talk) 13:20, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Forgive me, I've screwed up things again as I understood something a bit different reading the article too fast (Ray is at best of the "So Bad It's Good" category -see TVTropes-). Still I feel and hope that people like him with his ideas will obtain the opposite of what they want as the more they keep spewing BS, the more credibility the lose, and on an unrelated note I feel pity for those who are so desperate that look for help in (some at the very least) televangelists, just to end up scammed --Panzerfaust (talk) 22:42, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
I'll give you this much — Ray is among the best in the genre known as unintentional comedy. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 01:35, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
(Galactic facepalm). Seriously. --Panzerfaust (talk) 18:06, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Gravity[edit]

Might want to rework that section. The article that it points to actually says if everyone on earth jumped at the same place at the same time it would move Earth would move about a hundredth of the radius of a single hydrogen atom... Not one person can move it that far.

Banana Man[edit]

This is the One True Bananaman.

https://vistapointe.net/bananaman.html Bananaman is a character from the UK comic The Beano, who was given his own animated series in the mid-80s. The true identity of Bananaman is Eric, a small boy who lives at 123 Acacia Road, Beanotown.

But when Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs...Eric is Bananaman, ever alert for the call to action! The animated series was voiced by Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor (RIP) and Graeme Garden, known collectively as The Goodies, popular in the '70s for their anarchic and absurdist comedy (unfortunately overshadowed somewhat by the Pythons). — Unsigned, by: ParanoidSchizoidHumanoid / talk / contribs
