Stub[edit]

stub - some references would be good. historically I remember this in the 1960s but I cant source if this was a historical thing or still current.

Forgot to add an editing summary, but I'm working on expanding this article. Expanded upon causes and added Race template. I'll be adding effects as well as its presence outside the U.S. I'll put in some citations when I have time. Crispy (talk) 14:36, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Stupid question here. I've always wondered, if white flight is bad, why is gentrification also considered bad? I mean yes, some people will lose out if anything changes, which is why you have to look at the net result. CorruptUser (talk) 15:41, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
Any major demographic change has its impact on the locals. I'll put in some effects of white flight, and that ought to shed some light on the opposite effect. Crispy (talk) 17:26, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
When things change, someone loses out. Always. And those people tend to yell loudly. Look at free trade for example; a number of people in The West and nearly everyone in the third world benefits far more from globalization than the middle/lower classes in The West lose out, so it's a net gain, but those people are going to complain big time about it.
So yeah, someone's going to get screwed when rich people leave the city. Someone else is going to get screwed when the rich people move bag in. The real question shouldn't be "is someone getting screwed" but "is society better off". Because in Academia, the people complaining about gentrification were the same ones complaining about white flight; they care more about finding problems than about the problems themselves. Oh, yeah. I see your meaning. Thinking about fitting that into the article? It could use it. Crispy (talk) 18:46, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
Costs and benefits, maybe? I'm a fan of "white return" for a number of reasons. I'll list them. CorruptUser (talk) 18:55, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Adding sections on its occurrence outside the U.S. Additional input and edits would be appreciated. Crispy (talk) 13:33, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
