Topic[edit]

I won't claim this page has the best structure to it yet, but I feel it's an important page to be developed on RW Deku-shrub (talk) 19:53, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

It's not the best, but it's no disaster either. Regardless, you are absolutely right that it's an important topic, generally. Perhaps even the most important of all our computer related articles for our elderly and non-tech savvy readers — you know, those readers who will never run into terms like "deep web" or "bitcoin" all their life (and who wouldn't care much anyways), but who do hear a lot of constant woo about Macs never getting viruses, etc. People who actually follow the instructions given when a Malaysian number calls then up and some nasal sounding bloke claims to be from "MyCoreSoft" [sic] and needs to install ransomware on their computer needs then to fix something on their computer over the phone. How far to silver?[edit]

What needs doing, team? Reverend Black Percy (talk) 18:09, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

It needs more expansion aside from listing and mentioning things briefly. It needs actual analysis aside from making fun of something and thinking that's good enough. It also needs more sources. It has a long way to go.—Hamburguesa con queso con un cara Spinning-Burger.gif (talkstalk) 19:43, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Good take. Nothing to it but to do it; let's get to it. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 20:19, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
I don't think an article that cites Urban Dictionary is an article worthy of silver. I added a handful of cleanup templates and expanded the BadBIOS section.—Hamburguesa con queso con un cara Spinning-Burger.gif (talkstalk) 02:32, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
I added a starter section on Internet monitoring, but I could also take some of that, combine it with the "big truck" stuff under Misc, and get rid of the IT section entirely. I don't need to do a deep dive into DARPA history etc., nor be an EFF-style shopping list for secure software, e.g. Signal, TOR, Tails. But if anyone has any better ideas, I'd like to hear them before I make more edits. Memesis (talk) 08:37, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

The answer is[edit]

... confuse the authorities.

Look up different things on different computers (yourself or in collaboration with others).

Only one question in ten is a 'real question' and other misdirections.

etc, etc. 86.146.100.9 (talk) 22:29, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Assume inherent computer stupidity/contrariness (malign or otherwise). 86.146.100.9 (talk) 22:32, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

...I understand perfectly. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 22:33, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

The real computer bugs[edit]

Should there be some mention of the insect(s) in question? Anna Livia (talk) 23:01, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
