first paragraph is dreadful.[edit]

I think this article would be better if the entire first paragraph were removed and it just started by saying that some books mentioned in the bible no longer exist. (or never existed)Hubert (talk) 18:01, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Writing the article better is allowed.
'Back then' the publishing firms had not discovered that they could make money by publishing "all the early drafts" of best-sellers and juvenile scribblings of celebrities.
