So what's gonna happen now that the Taliban is taking over Afghanistan? And will they try to take over any other countries, too? Gorilla beringei graueri (talk) 03:00, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Their objective has always been to retake Afghanistan. Historically they did not have territorial ambitions beyond that, but after winning this war who knows? I'm guessing that a large part of the existing 30,000 strong Afghan army may find they they have suddenly have had a change of heart and join up with their Taliban brothers. Along with their equipment. So Afghanistan my well turn out to be a bit of a regional power.
A bigger issue would Al-Qaeda and Deash (ISIS). Both organisations have historically be happy to work against many countries and it's possible they may find themselves quite at home in Afghanistan.
On another point - can we please please not put current updates on the article page? The new "current situation" section is already out of date. This sort of real-time updating never turns out well.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 13:39, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Well, there could be a international incident over the Durand line. That has remained a sore point for pretty much every Afghan government since decolonization.-Flandres (talk) 13:46, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

"Current Situation"[edit]

I have removed the "current situation" section.

These things never work well on a wiki. It would be best to wait until the situation has stabilized before creating a significant section.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 14:22, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Good call. The urge to liveblog unfolding events usually produces rotten content. Helena Bonham Carter (talk) 16:27, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
