An interesting slice of bygone era[edit]

While some people might argue how notable The Random Time Machine was it does serve as a sample of the mentality of the 1970s. The fact it lasted at least 7 years and appeared in The Sunday news (Detroit) and The Columbus Dispatch (Columbus, OH) and yet is so poorly remembered show how common the mentality was--BruceGrubb (talk) 15:34, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Fascinating. — Dysk (contribs) 16:01, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
It is fortunate that I collected many of the articles though thanks to the Thursday to Sunday change overs and randomness on which section would carry the piece I don't have a complete set. Hopefully I can find the "Kingdom of the Cold" piece as it is totally gonzo (Siberia, the land of houses filled with ice the people inside trapped like flies in amber...when the houses don't outright explode). One piece is copy made of microfiche that thanks to the way it was done (the old white on black method) I can only really read the title (Lincoln: A Tortured Man) and the date ( Feb 12)--BruceGrubb (talk) 17:37, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

"It is unclear if this was an actual person or a pseudonym like Alan Smithee"[edit]

According to doanehoag.com: I come from a creative family. My Mother, Betty Hoag McGlynn was a respected early California art historian here in Carmel, and her Mother, Elizabeth Lochrie was an important historical painter of American Indians who lived in Montana. My Father, Paul Sterling Hoag was a prominent architect in Los Angeles, his brother and my Uncle, Doane Rusk Hoag, was a screen writer in Hollywood in the 1950’s and their father, Percival Doane Hoag was a pulp fiction writer. Incidentally, my full name is Robert Doane Hoag, “Doane” is Scottish and has been in our family for generations Given the above, it seems quite likely that "Doane R. Hoag" was indeed a real person, the uncle of Robert Doane Hoag, the artist who lives in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. It seems more likely than not that the screenwriter was also the author of this newspaper column, although I suppose one cannot be certain without more information. The website I'm quoting looks real–I suppose it could be all part of some grand hoax, but I doubt anyone would go to so much effort for so little reward.
