Religion articles

Jump to: navigation, search

I never really dug into them before. My god we have a lot of crap here. sloppy research, generalized statements, and wayyyy too much "oh, ikcy religion". I could spend a lifetime fixing this crap.

I haven't worked on them all that much, mostly because whenever I do, I start thinking "Oh fuck it, I'll just link to Wikipedia."

Malicious statement horribly persecuting the clearly innocent so as to feed my own ego.

Pretty much. What I want to add is the section on "formal statements", cause that's pretty rationalwiki ready. There are days I think the whole RW minus the critiques and essays should just link to Wikipedia.

No, we can salvage it! We must, for our honor!

We will! I actually do care, and do think about "what makes this a RW article, and not just a wiki article". But the task is very daunting.  :-)

So many people (here? everywhere?) have these mistaken ideas about what makes a religion, a denomination, what various beliefs are, etc. It's sad that we get our idea of Southern Baptists, for example, from Oh, Brother, where art thou".

"So many people...have these mistaken ideas...." Does it count as a quote mine if it's true?

Religion is cool ass! millions of people over 100,000 years all thinking they know what's what out there! some even thinking they know it 'well enough' to kill for it.

There are some pretty kick-ass religions out there, namely Raelism for orgies, the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church for smoking dope, and Discordianism for leaving pretentiously cryptic messages on internet fora.
