My paranoid streak actually came in handy on that one -- I had an FB for a short time and then got rid of it when they started quite obviously fucking around with privacy, though there wasn't anything reprehensible on it.

I actually learned paranoia by trying to be an academic in the early 90s. despite all the "women are equal" crap, I was never taken seriously in our Native-L list serve comments, till I started going by T. Lastname, instead of Tanya Lastname.

I changed my online presence at that time to "Kip" which was gender unspecific, and people actually took me more seriously.

Even here, I didn't ID as female for maybe 2 or 3 months. how's that for paranoid.
