I changed it because ru: appears in the bottom left in the "In other languages" box. However, this only happens on article pages. On talk pages ru: and rurw: are the same. On article pages rurw: is a normal interwiki link like wp: that stays in the text.

I didn't. ru: appears in the bottom left. rurw: can be used if you want it to stay in the text.

Yeah, I think we lost the whole interwiki database once, but I restored it.
