Buzzfeed Unsolved[edit]

Buzzfeed Unsolved is a YouTube series that deals with both true crime and the supernatural. For the most part, the series falls into many of the same traps that your typical series concerning conspiracy theories, the supernatural, and aliens will fall into.

The show is chiefly intended to entertain and is quite self-aware but still gives way too much leeway to some pretty suspect reasoning when dealing with the "paranormal".

Format[edit]

Each episode, our hosts introduce the subject, like a particular haunted house or a cold case, then run through the specifics of the subject, usually by following a timeline of relevant events associated with it. Quite often the hosts are on location, though sometimes they're in a studio or on set. During this time, and throughout the show really, each host shares their own views of the information as it is divulged in humorous back-and-forth dialogue transposed on the screen. After the basics are covered they go over official investigations or popular theories on the subject, which can range from the reasonable and even likely to the completely absurd.

Hosts[edit]

Ryan Bergara (current) - The show's champion of the paranormal, ufology, and conspiracy theories. Ryan's been around since day one, scaring himself silly all the while. In the face of the most absurd, unbelievable nonsense he will often at least play devil's advocate.

Shane Madej (current) - The sensible one and noted non-believer of all things paranormal. He's open to the existence of aliens, though not like that ones Ryan believe in. Open to (plausible) conspiracy theories as well.

Brent Bennet (former) - Was the Shane before Shane and acted as the voice of reason in early episodes of the show.

Episode Guide[edit]

BU has split its episodes into two distinct categories with their own seasons, true crime and supernatural.

Season 1 (2016)[edit]

The Creepy Real-Life "Men in Black"[edit]

No. Title Synopsis
1 The Creepy Real-Life "Men in Black" Examines "real-life" evidence of the so-called men in black. The episode opens with Ryan using loaded language to imply that there is a difference between the men in black in the 1997 film and the men in black touted by conspiracy theorists. Each case described comes from accounts given by brave "extraterrestrial investigators" themselves who alleged to be so important as to be terrorised by the government personally.

The Secret Society of the Illuminati[edit]

No. Title Synopsis
1 The Secret Society of the Illuminati A mostly light-hearted episode as even Ryan doesn't believe in things like reptile people running the world and other nonsense. Ryan opens the episode by more or less covering the actual history of the real Illuminati, even interviewing an assistant professor of history, before delving into the ridiculous. During the theory segment, Ryan covers the usual crackpot conspiracy theories about an all-powerful government, David Icke's lizard people theory, satanism, and celebrity membership.
