Enemas are a form of hydrotherapy, where water or another fluid is injected into the lower intestine. The enema solution is commonly held for a period, then the patient expels the solution along with other fecal matter. It is considered beneficial for detoxifying the body, and is commonly used in mainstream medicine as a treatment for constipation. Beyond these benefits, many find it to be a very relaxing experience, as long as an irritating solution is not used.

Common Enema Solutions[edit]

  • Water
  • Water/soap -- a slightly irritating solution, it is used to encourage expulsion of fecal matter. This can make the experience much less comfortable than with other solutions.
  • Sodium phosphate -- commonly sold under the Fleet brandname at pharmacies.
  • Urine
