Francophobia[edit]

Fucking atrocious. Why is Francophobia always the permitted exception to not being racist? When we write about Germany, it's level headed stuff & we go out of our way to make it clear that we don't blame Germany as a whole for the sins of the past, yet when people write about France it's all about cowardice & body odour. This kind of xenophobia doesn't do the site any favours, & I don't even know where to start trying to clean it up. WéáśéĺóíďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 11:03, 19 February 2009 (EST)

I took out the bit about not washing, but really, I think the rest of it is pretty funny--and to be fair, one of my first edits here was to the Germany article, where I wrote that "Germany is the country where Israelis learned their manners" (A PJ O'Rouke quote...). That got a resounding "no" from the community--and was even deleted. I have little problem at poking fun at nationalistic stereotypes...TheoryOfPractice 11:14, 19 February 2009 (EST)
I don't know, the Hubby is french, and he laughed at most of it. He gets tired of the idea that French are "surrender monkeys", since they aren't, historically. And he never forgets to mention to me that *they* and not us, provided the vast majority of the ideas that would become our Bill of Rights (which should be mentioned...). But on a personal note, i find it quite frustrating that this country enjoys hating France so much. It's that whole "anti intellectualism" I think, since France prides itself on her Philosophy, her cultural achievements, her push to humanitarianism based on logic, not emotion, etc. By the way, in France, anyone unemployed is not only welcome for free, but encouraged to come to the city or state run museums, libraries, art shows and other areas of culture both for mental health reasons and for educational purposes. They also are empowered by the working class. those "every other day" strikes are not just for show... I like the humor, but I think we could balance this article with what's "good" about france, besides just food, wine, and chocolate. --Sun mowse.pngEn attendant Godot"«Let the credulous and the vulgar continue to believe that all mental woes can be cured by a daily application of old Greek myths to their private parts. Napoleon[edit]

Just a note, the article claims on a sideline that Napoleon is not technically French. In reality, he was. Corsica is not mainland France, but it was a French holding, making him a French citizen. I get the joke, and even as an admitted francophile I have a good sense of humor about it, I don't want historical facts to get sidelined in the end, so I save points for talk instead of attemtping an edit.

It might be a Barack Obama joke - but Corsica is a French holding yes, but it has its own language and independence movement - which Boney fought for until the revolution. Totnesmartin 20:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

can someone remove that white flag thing.[edit]

i know rationalwiki has a narky point of view. but we have a fun:france article.

if you want to have a go at french at least be imaginative, the surrender thing is overused and no more funny and its insulting to the french soldier who died there. and the article has plenty of more *funny* comment at french so we dont need that *white flag*

thanks for understanding. humor can be good but it stop being funny when overused.
