Rapid growth[edit]

We have this in the article: "The rapid growth of its economy in recent years has facilitated the decline of the Catholic Church's influence in the country." I'd love it to be true - but logically, is it? Might there be other causes? Internationalization of the culture? Increased sophistication? Improved education? --Bob_M (talk) 12:46, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

The fact that the catholics and Protestants aren't blowing each other up every five minutes migth help, too. --Gulik 12:47, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

Education[edit]

I am Irish and I am a secondary school teacher (high school for those you who don't speak real english). I am not religious and I believe the religious domination of schooling is a problem, yet I would argue strongly against the existence of supposed "indoctrination". This befits an essay rather than an article. If anyone wants to start the essay i'll gladly lend my help. I'm going to remove the passage for now. ДιЯɖі$ɧ ɥοםЄʟβЯƏакĐΩωΝ 06:04, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

child abuse scandal[edit]

this also needs statistics here and an essay perhaps on the societal impact of child sex abuse in irish religious institutions. or something. i'll help there too if wanted. ДιЯɖі$ɧ ɥοםЄʟβЯƏакĐΩωΝ 06:05, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Ireland or Eire[edit]

Some of the material here should be in Republic of Ireland I think. yummy Toast&  honey(or marmalade) 14:09, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Actually, the two articles should be combined. DogPMarmite Patrol 17:22, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
I agree. It doesn't seem meaningful to have two separate articles. --ConcernedresidentAsk me about your mother 17:28, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, although they are two seperate things ("Ireland" the island and "Ireland" the republic) the geographical note should simply be in the "republic" article - as geography is even further from our remit than political units. --BobSpring is sprung! 17:53, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
I think it's simpler to merge them into Ireland, since that's more likely to be typed and linked? ħumanUser talk:Human 03:37, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
I looked at RoI and it took me eleven seconds to decide to move it to fun:. Now, Northern Ireland is a crap article that isn't even written in "sentences". Let's do something with that, like redirect it here? ħumanUser talk:Human 03:43, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
