Straw man[edit]

"What I do dislike is the suggestion that those of us who are prepared to defend the Foundation and treat it like a genuine organization, rather than little better than Scientology, are therefore dupes and knaves. " from A Scientific Defense of the Templeton Foundation

Has the Templeton Foundation been compared ever to Scientology? Was it a straw man? Mature, intelligent readers may feel Ruse was exaggerating for ironic effect, I suspect that. Still I've considered to the way I thought when I was, say 15 to 17 or 18 years old. At those ages I might well have overlooked the irony and imagined critics of the Templeton Foundation could be more easily defeated than they are. I'm sure The Huffington Post is popular with liberal teenagers like the youngster I once was, I would have liked it at that age. I believe Ruse was using a straw man that probably misleads some readers. Proxima Centauri (talk) 07:07, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
