There is too much hating on things on your talk page.
"The belief that human beings exist in a purposeless, chaotic universe." Yeah, I'd say I believe that also. When I say 'nihilist', I mean what it says on Wikipedia -- as far as I'm concerned, my brand of nihilism is the only true nihilism and all the other nihilists can fuck themselves.
Your embrace of it is what makes you an absurdist. Don't worry though, true nihlism is rather dreary
it's Born in evidence i've seen of people i grew up with.
i myself didnt formalize the personality I have in RL til 11th grade. and you keep changing as you hit the 20's if people are to be believed.
So, I have either a year or five years to solidify my personality and beliefs. Interesting.
I know that everyone says that, and I'm not sure how much it'll hold up later, but I can't really see myself saying 'There's objective meaning and purpose and morality and practical reality!' My personal attitudes on life will probably change instead.
Good question! i have no idea... part of my own contradictory personality.
I find Negativity humorous, but hate general negativity, i have hope for the future but at the same time i know it probably won't go anywhere anytime soon. I believe YEC but i at the same time accept and/or say things that contradict it, I'm terribly shy but love having friends, and most importantly: I hate conflict in every form, but once i'm in any fight stopping isn't on my mind.
Well, I feel that I'm either obnoxious and annoying or shy and nonconfrontational.
I Think you all need to read more Camus.
If Wikipedia is correct -- "In philosophy, "The Absurd" refers to the conflict between the human tendency to seek value and meaning in life and the human inability to find any. In this context absurd does not mean "logically impossible," but rather "humanly impossible."[1] The universe and the human mind do not each separately cause the Absurd, but rather, the Absurd arises by the contradictory nature of the two existing simultaneously." -- then that's bullshit.
How is it bullshit?
Everyone needs to read more Camus. And if they can't, there's always the animated version, Camus and Squirrel. (Man, that's gotta be my worst pun of the year.)
I think perhaps, nihlist, you have missed the point. The fact that life the universe and whatever has no meaning is not in dispute. Certainly not by me. The point of the absurd is how you deal with that knowledge. You either embrace whatever activities you like and embue them with your own subject meaning and passion. The Absurd, in Camus's sense (or at least this is what i got from him) is to create your own purpose, your own meaning, and essentially live your life. Its how most people live their lives. There is nothing abstract about that. It is to stave of nihlism which is essentially a philosphy of despair. My own poor mental health and substance abuse issues are testiment to that.
Not really. My point, and has always been my point, is that it is not enough to say 'there is no meaning, therefore I am nihlist'. The statement is meaningless if everything you say and do says otherwise. Besides. There is no cachet is saying you are a nihlist. Every spotty teenager says they are.
