I have a pretty intimate knowledge of the working of this field now--would anyone b interested in my un-stub-ifying it? And what (if anything) would people b curious about? Researcher (talk) 11:33, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Sire, if you have useful knowledge my better, why don't you add it to the page? Researcher's Humble Servant (talk) 11:36, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I told you you could do it *clap* Kosterortiizbrock (proud MRA) (talk) 12:37, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I wasn't sure what to add, or what people would be curious about. BTW: if anyone is interested in pursuing this as a career, esp. in the U.S. State Department, I'd be happy to talk privately about it! Researcher (talk) 12:38, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Where could I contact you about this? I suppose you handle more paperwork than anything, I also assume diplomatic solutions is your thing- not aggressive negotiations. Kosterortiizbrock (proud MRA) (talk) 12:45, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
It's gone, but I doubt you'd find any Nigerian princes, malware, or promotions from Users. Kosterortiizbrock (The WhiteKnight Mangina) (talk) 13:00, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
The history would be visible to absolutely anyone, with an account or not. I've 'hidden' the revisions so only sysops can see them. Should keep the email safe from RW few persistent swivel-eyed annoyances. Queexchthonic murmurings 13:02, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Works for me! I used to know how all this worked, 5 years ago when I did this stuff more often. I appreciate it. Researcher (talk) 13:03, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, you will have no worries as the sysops are of absolutely no questionable conduct whatsoever./joke offKosterortiizbrock (The WhiteKnight Mangina) (talk) 13:06, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── As for the "bad public image"-section, I'm suspecting that diplomats' image in the US probably isn't helped by the long-standing practice of filling at least some (most? all?) ambassadorships with political appointees whose main qualification seem to be to have palled around with the POTUS of the day and/or his posse, or as a way of "easing people out" of the administration (a more genteel and nice version of sending people to Siberia: Out of sight, out of mind). One bizarre case of the latter was Nixon's suggestion that Richard Helms should take up the post of ambassador to Moscow when he was ousted as CIA Director(!) Helms pointed out that that probably wasn't a good idea (no shit) and was instead sent to Teheran - hardly a much more "diplomatic" destination, considering CIA's well-known role in the 1953 coup against Mosaddegh. Believe me, most professional diplomats share the frustration with that. Perhaps even moreso, since we usually end up working under those guys. (Some political ambassadors can be great, if they either have the substantive knowledge or the real connections to get things done. Others, though, are just figureheads who waste time and often their own money.) Researcher (talk) 09:54, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
