I can't think of a title
As far as I can tell, "sex positive" means "I'm into really kinky shit and the radfems call me a tool of the patriarchy."
I've been waiting for you (and indirectly, your lovely lady's opinions) to chime in on this. :-)
It often is, but when you think about it that's not surprising. If you're "into" something, then you're far less likely to be judgmental, you'll know and have a feeling of what it's like to enjoy something that's not mainstream. All this combines into a knowledge of how to make moral judgments about sexuality that aren't didactic or based on some prescribed belief. So simply how you live gives you a perspective that says "do what you feel is right, but know what you're doing"
Most of the writing about "dirty" sex, whether its peddled by rad fems, fundies, or "therapists" (curse you, Freud!) works the same way: Start off with stereotypical assumptions about said act, JAQ off a bit about how it might have been caused by the patriarchy/Satan/child abuse, and therefore it's bad! Wash, rinse, repeat and you've got an entire book's worth of material, ready for sale!
Sounds about right. But the thing is, unless you practice it personally, what do you really have to go on apart from the stereotypical assumptions?
Of course it's slightly circular in the fact that if you hold such an opinion on it you won't be interested in reading around and beyond those assumptions.
Also - since I can't be fussed with starting a thread for it - new series of Sherlock has Irene Adler as a dominatrix. I am seriously considering taking up smoking from just 15 minutes of this episode so far.
Well, there's the apparently not-so-obvious method of actually talking to people who do practice it.
Yes, but if I held such a negative and stereotypical idea, why would I want to talk to such heathens?
"Vagrant Story: It's not quite clear why, but about half of the cast is walking around in BDSM gear. And spouting faux-Shakespearian dialogue."
This specifically never occurred to me, mostly because if you really want to stretch it you could say that about any Japanese RPG. Though IIRC Callo does spend a significant portion of the game tied up. Oh well.
